I was the QUEEN of fast food pre-op! I NEVER cooked, every meal I ate was out. I worked 2 jobs for 10 years. M-F during the day then Friday and Saturday nights. Friday was my biggest food day.

Every Friday I would start the day off with 2 sausage biscuits & 2 hash browns ($1 menu @ McDonalds). Lunch-Sonic: Large popcorn chicken with 2 ranch dippers, large tater tots, & a large Dr Pepper. Dinner-McD's again: 10 piece chicken nuggets with super sized french fries & large Dr Pepper, eat in the car on the way to 2nd job. Dinner #2 @ 2nd Job-Jack in the Box: Sourdough Jack, large curly fries & large Dr Pepper. "Snack" after work @ 3:30 am-Taco Bell: Nachos Bell Grande, a burrito supreme & large Pepsi.

Looking back at this now I'm really surprised I havent already died of a heart attack. My first meal post-op, my 30 year old son looked at my plate of food and laughed. He was like "seriously that's all you can eat?" "Yep, that's it" His reply "Do you realize you used to eat as much as me?" My reply "there were numerous times I ate way more than you, I would just wait for you to leave before I finished it off". He was beyond amazed!!

Thank you Lord for my sleeve!!!

*Edited to add: HOLY CRAP! I just added up the calories/sodium. 5395 Calories & 10930 sodium!!! WOW!!

Pizza - I could eat 4 pieces of thin crust 3 meat pizza with a huge sprite or diet coke.

Double cheeseburger, fries and a coke.
2 slaw dogs, onion rings and a large frosted orange.
2 fried chicken thighs, 2 sides and a large sweet tea.
Chinese - soup, egg roll and half of the entree.
Mexican - 1 salsa and half the chips by myself. Plus my entree and 3 glasses of water.

Just a few examples. Now, for instance I went to get chinese. I had 5 shrimp and 2 small pieces of zuchinni and I was done!

I am with Biscuit! My friends can't understand why I am over weight. 2 slices of pizza and I am done. I am talking like Pizza Hut or something. New York Style I could only do 1 Slice. Sweets,Bread, Pasta Soda are a different ball park. I use to drink a 2 liter a day by myself.

Debby, I just checked one meal at mcdonalds and it was over 1200 calories - ONE meal.  So that's like what an average sized adult should eat all day long in order to maintain LOL

Crazy isn't it???

BTW congratulations on your losses.  You look amazing!

Thank you!!

It is crazy!! I'm really surprised I didnt weigh more than what I did because I was not active at all!! And you are right, I'm maintaining between 1200-1500 calories per day or the equivalent of 1 McDonalds. :)

It's funny, between the 3 months I was on a pre-op diet and 14 months post-op, I almost can't remember other than the bag of doritos/chips/combos/pringles I would eat in the car on the way home during my 90 minute commute because the steroids I was taking made me so ravenously hungry I would actually cry in the car.  Sometimes I would stop at Arby's for a roast beef sandwich to hold me over (on it's own not a horrid choice) but then go out for dinner with my husband like I hadn't eaten at all.  I gained my weight very quickly when I initially 'blew up' and then after I had lost it.  I I gained 150lbs in like 18 months, each time. That's why I had to self-pay. My history of 'Morbid obesity' wasn't long enough.

If I quit exercising now and jacked my calorie up from 1,500 to 2,500 a day, I have no doubt I would regain just as quickly.  That's part of the reason I opted for the sleeve -- hunger control along with restriction.  1,000 extra calories a day is 8.6lbs of weight gain, possible, a month. I always keep that in the back of my head. 1,000 calories is not a lot when you're talking about restaurant or fast food.

Oh,..... I am loving this post! What a great and horrifying walk down memory lane.

Favorite, "I'm so friggin tired and don't want to cook dinner" meal  - Taco Bell: 1 Nacho Bell grande (usually shared, but not always! LOL) , two crunchy tacos, 1 seven layer burrito and a carmel apple empanada with vanilla ice cream for later. That made me feel full - not stuffed, just pleasantly full!!!!

Then there was Carl's Jr. - 6 dollar quacamole burger, medium fries, diet coke, and a side of chicken nuggets for the car ride home! Then, of course, had ice cream for desert.

I just finished my little 2.5 ounce lunch and am happy and satisfied! 1.5 ounces chicken breast satay, 1/2 ounce farmers cheese and about 3 ounces thai cucmber salad. Yum..... and satisfying, too boot!

How things have changed......Thank God!

Not much of a fast food eater and did enjoy a coke now and the, however. But oh, bring me to a restaurant and I was all about the appetizer, main course, dessert, bread and butter and several ****tails if I wasn't driving.
I also could eat a loaf of real Italin bread the kind we have in northern NJ and olive oil to dip....my pasta and meatballs...I could eat a huge dish.
And don't even get me started on the massive quanties of Chinese take out and wine I tore through every Friday after work.
I would eat large Colombian cookies for breakfast with tea that had cream and several sugars in it. Giant bagels with cream cheese 2 inches thick and lox piled on.

So happy I am no longer a slave to food.

This was me too!

Salted bagel with about 3/4" thick cream cheese.. real thin crust pizza pie, and the same at a restaurant, bread, butter, app, entree, dessert, coffee w/ cream & don't forget the drinks!

I grew up in Bergen Co, so there were no shortages of good pasta & breads.
