Trying to prepare as best mentaly as I can for the VSG! Wanting to know what sort of things can I never eat again once I have this? I realize everyone is different but Id love to hear about your no no items! I suppose my beloved cereal is out of the question since you can eat and have liquids at the same time!

Honestly, from what I have seen here and observed in my husband who is 15 months out, once you get past the first few stages post op it's not so much about not being "allowed" to ever eat certain things again as it is making sure you get in your protein and stay within your calorie goals. By doing that, it seems like a lot of people end up cutting out certain foods by default, especially until they get to goal.

About the cereal, you will need to check with your doctor. I am in soft food right now, and my plan says I can have high fiber and low sugar cereals during this phase. I plan to try a little Special K protein plus tomorrow or the next day. But honestly, once I get to solids, I probably won't have much room for cereal anyways if I want to get my protein in on as few shakes a day as possible.

The only other idea to consider is that some people seem to not tolerate certain foods post op as well as they did preop, but this is on a completely individual basis.

I hope that helps

If you love cereal it is possible to have it however with liquid and solid you will need to better control the volume and won't feel full for as long.  The only foods I really don't eat are steak and roast beef. My sleeve tolerates it fine but the digestion messes up my bowels for like a week so I figure it isn't worth the pain or effort. I have no trouble with ground beef or any form of pork, chicken or fish.  I do get very full, very fast from pasta and potatoes but that is a bonus since carbs make me hungier.  I'm not sure anyone can really understand pre op how different things will become but I LOVE my sleeve and am thankful every day for the benefits I have received through my surgery and weight loss. Good luck to you.

So far I have been able to eat what I wanted. I am fine with chicken, beef, and steak. Actually, beef and steak sit better then chicken.. weird. I have tried bread with no problems (some people say it swells up after a while and makes them feel really full). Thats about it for the odd stuff. I havent tried rice/pasta yet since I am not even 3 months out, but I hve a feeling I will be fine with them- I seem to have a sleeve of steel :)

i can pretty much eat anything i want...  now, whether i SHOULD eat something is a different story...
exceptions: i don't do rice and pasta very well, because they tend to swell once in my stomach, and that is not comfortable...  not fun, so i try to avoid....

the big, big, BIGGEST thing i can. not. have. is carbonated beverages...  i have been cursed with the inability to voluntarily belch, so anything carbonated causes me severe distress....   i never really drank all that much soda -- not fond of sweet drinks like that...   but on new years eve i had about 3 ounces of champagne at a wine tasting, and i was one hurtin' puppy....

i will miss a nice, ice cold beer in the summer...

There is really nothing that you can never have because of the sleeve. There may be things that you may choose not to have due to specific weight loss plans (of your own choosing, or under threat/suggestion of your doctor or dietician) and there may be things that are limited short term during healing and rapid weight loss phases. There may also be some things that will change in your tolerances that are specific to you - as noted by some, bread or rice, or carbonated beverages may not feel right for quite a while, and lactose intolerance may occur post-op.

There is NOTHING that you cannot have after the sleeve.. even cereal in milk, or chunky soups. That said there are things that you may wish to not have/limit during the losing phase. I chose to limit carbs very significantly, some don't. I have not yet tried rice or pasta, but if it is like all other things I have tried.. my sleeve tolerates everything. From the driest chicken, the toughest jerky, the fattiest meat to the leanest.. nuts and even pickles  and seaweed.. my sleeve lets me eat everything I want.. Whether I let me eat everything, that's another deal..
