I just want to ask out there if everyone followed this to the exact?  I am to only eat liquids and protein shakes for 2 weeks?  If I could do that I would of never been fat?  I know it's only 2 weeks out of my life but does anyone have any suggestions for other things to eat or what they did for those 2 weeks?

I would also love to get any other suggestions or meal plans that others followed for this procedure post op, i.e., soft boiled eggs, anything????

Thank you in advance!!

My surgeon requires that too.  I'm not looking forward to it, but I know I can do it.  I'll do anything to get this surgery.

My surgery is tomorrow so I'm just finishing up this pre-op diet.  Mine was a clear liquid only diet as well.  It's difficult but it is possible!  Now at the end of it my protein shakes and 1 bowl of soup broth are enough to keep me full for a day, for the most part.

A few things that helped was buying low sodium broth and flavoring it myself with garlic salt and spices.  Another was to go out and get broth based soups and ask them to strain it and just give you the broth.  No one ever gave me a problem and the different flavors were a treat.

Good luck!

Liquid is liquid, protein drinks are not too bad but find one that you like. When you hit the clear liquids it is hard, basically broth, water, crystal lite etc...All I can suggest is to walk it off, go outside, get away from the building at lunch time, if you like to knit do keep your hands busy with some type of thing that you like etc.... It is hard and you have to find ways past it.

No-one enjoys it, but I did low carb 6 weeks including liquids the last 3 weeks pre-op and lived to tell the tale. Just find some protein shakes you like and keep reminding yourself it's only two weeks.

It's true that if we could manage our eating long term we wouldn't be fat, but I think almost all of us could/can manage it for a two-week period if we set our mind to it.

Not saying you're going to like it. Just that you can do it.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

Liquids are also soups, cream of chicken, cream of potato, cream of mushroom....  I was able to start those after 7 days clear liquid.  But ya, liquid for two weeks does seem like torture.

I also like sugar free popsicles!

My pre-op diet was not liquid, only two weeks of lower calorie (900) and foods from the surgeon's office store. Good though. My liquid diet started the day after surgery and was for two weeks. All surgeons do it differently. My suggestion... follow it to the letter. They are the ones that deal with these issues day in and day out. Cheating... not a good idea. You can do the 2 weeks of liquid. Discipline is still a requirement when getting a sleeve. It does make it easier to obey, but good habits need to be formed early on to help through out your weight loss and maintenance. Just take it one day at a time and do not make room to waver. You can do it!

This is generally my response to the liquid diet woes (because it was advice given to me and it helped a ton):

Question, are you doing clear liquids only or are you doing full liquids?

For me, I was on full liquids. I found that warm/salty (broth, 98% ff cream soups, etc)  things at meal times and sipping on cold/sweet (crystal light, sugar free waterbottle packets, etc) things the rest of the day worked well for me. I also discovered that if you chug a glass of cold water after eating/drinking anything warm you get that "I feel like I just ate!" feeling. (NOT post-op! Just don't.)

The trick is to avoid monotony in what you're eating/drinking. Also try to keep your mouth busy. Toothpicks, a bobby pin, hell, anything you can roll around in there that you won't swallow. **Gum is a bad idea, because it starts out so temptingly soft. Anyway, variety was my KEY to success with that part of everything.

Remember what it is you're working towards and how badly you want it. No one enjoys this part, but it's good for you to go through. It teaches you control, for me it was control I never knew I had. Also keep in mind that it's not forever, it just for right now.

Good luck! You can do this.

I'm allowed 5 shakes and one "lean&green" meal/day.  The "lean" should be about 5-7 ounces of protein and the "green" can be 3 servings (about 1 1/2 cups) of broccoli, string beans, zucchini, cauliflower, salad, etc.

I got dizzy after only two days but then decided to have the "lean&green" meal at lunchtime during work.  It was much better and no more dizziness.

I'm also keeping up with my water - at least 64 ounces a day.

My surgery is this Monday, April 30th!  PSYCHED!

Best of luck to you!
