Tomato soup?

I go to full liquids tomorrow. My surgeon is pretty liberal. He wants us eating lean protein as soon as possible. I have been hankering for tomato soup. Do you think the acidity will be too high for me being so soon (sleeved 4/24) and are the carbs too high?

Thanks!

The carbs are very high in tomato soup.  Shame too because I LOVE it!  Early on it was too acidic for my stomach but I was having bad acid problems from week 2 on out anyway.  If you don't have any acid problems might be ok for you, other then the carb issue.

I can tell you that tomatoes were too acidic for me for about 2-3 months.  But that is not true for everybody.  I still have a difficult time if I eat too many of them.

I ate chicken broth my first day home from the hospital and tomato soup the second day.  I had no problems at all with it.

Skip the Tomato soup.  Start doing the math on the label, what are you getting for the calories other than carbs?

Look for brothy soups that are made from non starchy vegetables instead of a roux or cream base.  Those are the ones most likely to provide some protein and better nutrition for the calorie cost.

In my stage 2 diet I ate a lot of broth from other soups, like chicken vegetable or chicken tortilla.  We would make soups and I would just take the broth leaving it thicker for the others, or would order just broth at a restaurant.

That was one of the only soups I could eat. Please know, I didn't have any issues with acid. It was wonderful!

My Dr. was pretty good about it w/me.  Tomato soup was fine as long as I took my Prevacid.
He said we are getting so little at this point that we need the calories etc.  I would call your nurse though.  I call them all the time and they are more than happy to answer and give advice

Tomato Soup was and is my favorite.  I get it from Von's here in Cali - It's a bisque soup.  It's delicious.  Then again - I never had any issues with acid either.

I'm not taking an acid reducer at this point. I googled low carb tomato soup recipe and found this so maybe this is a good compromise :)
