Honestly, I have no excuse for not trying the veggies already.  I bought the magic bullet, but suddenly got worried and backed away from it.  But I'm drinking four shakes a day, eating soup, drinking water, etc.  I'm having no problems whatsoever.

I guess I'm worried the other shoe is going to drop!

you'll be alright just go slow, 3 weeks post op on my plan I was allowed rotisserie chicken, my my I thought what the heck, I started foaming, hot nauseaus  and was really worried that I damaged my sleeve. this feeling lasted for about 2 hrs, horrible!

I was allowed the chicken but should of gone slower and tried other soft foods first.  I had no surgery problems whatsoever and had a really easy recovery also, no sore throat, no gas, no problems with fluids. The chicken was my first wake up call, and it took me only the once to get on board and slow down.

My shocked after 12 days post op your surgeon has cleared you from fluids to everything and suggested you may try a burger if you wanted, I wouldnt take his advise until you try other things first, puree and soft foods are a better choice for now, when you can handle them then go for it. But avoid the carbs.

He had actually already asked if I had received the food guide and instructions from the hospital and if I'd read it and understood it.  So he may have just been joking about the hamburger, I don't know. He was grinning when he said it.

Last night I ate a tiny bit of pot roast minced finely and taken in three extra-tiny bites, and then chewed forever before swallowing. Guess what, no probs!

Of course, those were tiny tiny tiny bites and I chewed until there was no flavor left and I began to think it was kind of gross.  So I was being super-cautious.

Thanks for the warning. I appreciate it a lot.

Wow! How exciting! I get to start my pureed diet on Friday and I'm definitely ready. Getting tired of soup and yogurt. I'll continue with protein shakes for a while too, but I'm excited for refried beans and cottage cheese!

I had forgotten that was an option.

I know what I'm having soon.

Are you doing okay otherwise, twin?

I had my post op today as well! I have lost 21 pounds since my surgery and 27 pounds since pre op!
My liquid diet ban was lifted last Saturday and I tried a piece of baked but moist chicken and it was a No Go! I even couldn't handle a scramble egg the next day. Not saying this to scare you but I would just try a very small amount of any new food first and give it a minute.   Your body will let you know if it is ready for it or not. After those two experiences, i decided to back up and start with softer foods like cottage cheese and beans.  My dietician gave me a good hint, she said if you can not dissolve it in your mouth after 20 chews then you should wait until after the 6 week mark to try it.

Good luck! I am learning how challenging it can be to cook for others (my hubby and 3 toddlers) and find something to eat as well!

Chicken to me sounds much more difficult to handle than a very soft pot roast.  In fact, I know of one man who is six months out from surgery and is doing great, but still can't eat chicken. He says it's too dry.

I ate the tiniest amount of pot roast you can imagine and it went fine. On the other hand, it was so tiny my stomach may have never known it was there.

My doc did suggest that ground meat was a good way to start--ground beef, turkey, chicken, whatever.

It sounds like your dietician is on top of things. Thanks for sharing that information.  Now that I've had some very soft yellow squash today I'm going to back up and start looking at this big picture thing and plan better.

Just wanted to add--I didn't mean to sound like I was arguing about chicken, just the way it had seemed to me when contemplating it!

Let me know what you come up with re: meal ideas.  I need all the help I can get!

You made me LOL regarding eating the pot roast!

I'm not really doing meals yet.  I tried refried beans yesterday and today and they were oh so good.

It looks like this little single serving from Taco Bueno will last for four meals.  LOL

My schedule, such as it is, is to drink or eat something every 2 or 3 hours, with water between.  Morning, had a protein shake, had refried beans (with protein powder) for a very early lunch,  had apple sauce a little while ago, and am probably going to eat soup (with protein powder) in a bit... I'm just grazing through my days.
