Hi All, My surgeon told me no advil anymore. So far I have not taken it. Has anyone taken advil since their sleeve? If so, did you have any residual effects like GERD? Thanks, Sharon

I took an NSAID for the first time yesterday. I'm 6 months post-op, which is when my surgeon told me I was cleared to start using them again. I had no problems.

I have not had the vsg but since I've decided to have it u switched to Tylenol for the TOM and it has not worked. I plan on contacting the doctor in the next wk bcuz advil works the best for me. I'm due to have the vsg next month. But I have been wondering about this issue too

Hi - I am 3 months out and have taken advil for pain on a couple of occasions already since I was cleared for pills at about 6 weeks.  The doc advised they were fine once in a while (not regularly), and also advised me to double up on my PPI when I take them.  I have followed his advice and had no trouble taking them (also made sure I took with a little food).  Tylenol does nothing for my pain.

When I went for my 1 month post op appointment a few weeks ago, my Surgeon cleared mevtomake what ever I wanted for pain/ headaches. I usually take Advil or Tylenol.

I want to take Advil so badly sometimes, but I don't. The surface area of our new tummy is so small, I don't want to risk the possible stomach ulcerations that might occur. I stick with Tylenol or Ecotrin. I have heard that if you HAVE to take it, only take if for a short period of time and always with Mylanta or something to coat your stomach.

I have been having major knee issues and recently had arthroscopic knee surgery. Prior to surgery my VSG doc said it was fine to take NSAIDs regularly for short periods - a week or two at a time. And again, with a PPI and food. So far, so good.

I have been told never to take advil or aleeve. Not sure if it was just because of the the surgery or because I have Crohn's Disease, but I know both can irritate the stomach and intestinal lining.

“Not many of us are living at our best.  We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains.  The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills.  We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence.  What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb.  What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.?  JRM
