Forgot and drank water with my meal!

While my family ate burgers cooked on the grill, I ate a ground beef patty with melted cheese on it, only 2 ounces.  I was surprised that it didn't satisfy me.  I ate a little more, probably about half an ounce, and decided to just focus on my water.

That's when I noticed that I'd been drinking water the whole time.

~slaps forehead~

I'm not sure what that means... that I most likely washed it on through with the water?

Anyway, live and learn!

It's great that you didn't have any pain!  I have to look at the clock after my last bite to make sure I'm not less than 30 minutes.

Did the ground beef go down well?

It went down great!  While I'm sure the water helped (slaps forehead again!) it was moist and soft.  I even ate a tablespoon of low-fat spinach artichoke dip that was mostly spinach.  Chewed well, swallowed, no problem. (Yes, I logged it!)

Over the past few days I've had canned salmon (so soft it's a mushy but tasty), chicken, baked fish at a restaurant, green beans twice, a scrambled egg with cheese, and have eaten an ounce of sharp cheddar cheese.  I chew well before swallowing and have had no issues, and those were withou****er washing them down.

Those are all great...  I haven't tried ground beef yet, have tried ground turkey.  The first time was at about 6 weeks, it was a little too tough.  Now I eat it no problem.

Try some ahi tuna, its great!

I've never had trouble swallowing anything. Oh, the capsules I take for daily meds, I "feel" them, and sometimes feel like it takes them a bit to go down, but that's better now.  This food I "feel" go down but no reaction of illness or sickness.  I feel very fortunate.

I'm going on my 4th week post-op and have had a taste of grilled soft chicken but it was still a little to dry, bite or two of a grilled rib and that hurt after I ate 2 bites I think I just ate it fast b/c it tasted so good... But I normally eat green beans, egg and cheese, soup, (egg muffin that I made), cheese sticks, re-fried beans and a couple of other things (Still on the Mushy Stage) Although I went to Outback Steak House today for Mothers Day and I ordered the Kids Chicken Barbie and ate about 1/4 of the chicken a couple pieces of Broc and felt it in my chest... So I will wait a little longer before I do anymore soft meat cuz it just want soft enough for me I have to catch myself also because its a habbit I need to break drinking while eating only slipped 2 times since vsg!!

If you like it, canned salmon is soft and moist, very good, not at all difficult to swallow.  The only difficulty I had was trying to chew it long enough because it had already pretty much "melted" in my mouth.

I cannot drink with meals at all, I get the worst stomach cramp if I do... pain is a great detour-er.

Oh man you are lucky I'm almost 6 months out and I slip every now and again and pay for it for a good 30 min every time

You have a VSG, so you still have your pylorus. Your 'new' stomach functions exactly the same way the 'old' one did, except it doesn't hold nearly as much.

You CANNOT 'wash' things through your stomach by drinking while eating. That advice is for pelple with the RNY, who have a permanently open stoma(hole) between their pouch and their small intestine.

Eat, drink, enjoy!
