Lost my mojo

I met with my surgeon on Tuesday and was approved and scheduled for surgery.  I'd been following the nutritionist's diet very strictly in order to lose enough to be scheduled.

Since Tuesday, I've been struggling to stay on plan.  As usual, I can't seem to stay on a diet very long.  Seems that now that motivation for being strict is gone, I'm not doing so well.  It worries me that I'm going to do poorly post-op.

I guess I need to find a new motivation (besides getting approved) if I'm going to straighten myself out and stop self-sabotaging.

On top of it, I found out yesterday that a dear friend is moving several states away in June.  I have managed to not eat my way into a stupor yet over it, but I guess this is another reason why I'm struggling.

No need to reply.  I just needed to get this off my chest and get my mind around what I need to do.

I am replying anyway!

Life happens! thats never going to change.

I know it's hard to stick to an eating plan pre-surgery, we all do. That's why we are here!

Pre surgery my husband and I drank protein shakes all day (no solid food) and then meat and green veggies for dinner (and a lot of it, I might add) but we still kept losing the weigh pre-op.

Pick a plan that works.
It's onlly for a very short while.
After surgery the whole damn process is WAY EASIER!

good luck,

and remember...visiting good friends out of state is a LOT of fun!

I know you didn't ask for replies, but I think it is important to mention that it is MUCH easier to stay on plan post-op.  it is one of those things that you need to experience to believe.  I struggled not cheating pre-op, but have already lost a fair amount.  You can do this !

Try this:
Eat dense protein first for every meal.  Things like turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, whole milk cottage cheese.
Works like a charm before and after surgery.

Ugh, I know how awful it can be when people move away. Almost all of my good friends live in different states, same with my husband. I will echo the previous posters, even though I am only 2.5 weeks post op. I struggled a lot with staying on plan before surgery, not nearly as much since surgery. Stay strong, you can do it!

This is the worst time cause your mind is playing tricks on you!! But you can do this!! And you are NOT alone!! Just hang in there. Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time. Remind yourself of why you are doing this and that it's only temporary.

Trust me when I say that AFTER you will not be able to do the things you are now. You think you can, but you don't. You won't even WANT to!! Some days I get emotional and then I go to the fridge and take a bite of my protein bar - lol! It actually helps - cause it's so filling!

Anyway, you will be ok - just hang in and keep looking for support when you need it!!

With surgery less than a month away, it is natural to have anxiety which makes you even hungrier.   i have seen others on the board like you have trouble sticking to pre-op diet and find themselves eating even more than before surgery was scheduled.

If you didn't have trouble staying on a diet you wouldn't need WLS.

Good responses above.. keep trying and follow their advice.  Try to relax and think of all the benefits you will receive from VSG.  Everything is going to work out.
