Fear of Surgery???
Is it normal to fear the thought of having surgery on my stomach?
The very thought gives me nervous quivers, anxiety, stress!
Although, I am ready for the 'diet', the weight loss, the smaller clothes...
Just afraid of going under, afraid of cutting my stomach, afraid of 'what ifs'.
HELP!!!!!
Has anyone gone thru this before????
Thanks!
Barb

Barb,
Everyone goes through this. Its 100% natural.
Have faith that you did your homework, you picked the right surgeon. Focus on the benefits that a new lifestyle will give you. Remind yourself that you are doing this to enjoy a long healthy life with the people you love.

I am definitely sure we all had this happen to us. It is scary to go through voluntary surgery. But think of what is to come. Think of all the reasons you are doing it.
For me I thought of being able to really play with my kids. To be able to chase them at the park. I thought about one day watching my kids graduate from high school. I thought abou****ching my future grandchildren graduating high school. There are so many things that surgery has given me the chance to see and do.
Those thoughts kept my what ifs under control.
You can do this and what you are feeling is completely normal.

I am totally scared of surgery!!! I am scared of everything that goes with it... I am scared of the scope a few weeks before.. I am scared of actually being awake in the surgical room at first.. I am chlostrophobic (however you spell it) horribly.. even laying down on the table.. but I am really trying to do mind over matter and get throught this.. because I know that its going to be the best thing for me.. so I try not and think about the surgery itself.. and think how great its going to be when I start losing the weight.. not even for myself as much but for my family as well... Do you have a date set yet??
I was definitely nervous Barb. This was the first surgery I'd ever had! I just tried to keep in my mind the reasons I was having surgery...my health and the ability to actually play with my nephew who hadn't been born yet (my SIL was pregnant at the time).
I have to say I was more nervous about after the surgery (new lifestyle, weightloss, clothes, attention, etc.) than I was the actual surgery. That really seemed pretty cut and dry (pun intended, lol).
I do have to say that the surgery is the easy part. If you aren't nervous about having head issues with food, aren't an emotional eater, a food addict or have any of those problems then this really will be okay for you. There will be pain involved more than likely (gas pain was the worst for me) but once that's over then it should be smooth sailing.
