Aside from the food staples you'll need - broth, broth, Crystal Light, more broth, there are some tools you'll want to make sure you have. Here's my suggested shopping list:

- Digital kitchen scale. The one I bought will also give you nutritional information for a ton of fresh foods. Don't go cheap.
- Popsicle molds - I picked up a bunch at Bed Bath & Beyond and had a lovely Crystal Lite Peach Tea pop last night. I find the sugar-free variety to be a little too sweet for my tasts so I'm making some gourmet ones for myself.
- A good, basic reference guide. Mine is "Kitchen Companion" by Polly Clingerman. I use it ALL THE TIME. You want something that when you need to remember how long to cook rutabega you can just look in the index and get that exact information.
- A good quality digital thermometer (check the temps of your broth before you put protein powder in)
- 4oz containers - get used to the size!

I'll probably think of more - or you will!

Thanks for the info... what temp does broth need to be to add the protein?

You want to keep it under 130F.

I made the mistake of nuking a cup that felt a bit cool - already had the powder in. blech - bit lumpy mess.

Related to my chicken post from later today - you might want to also look at an inexpensive food grinder.  I do lots of things with Chicken breasts ground up like my taco recipe posted here and sweet italian sausage.  I've done meatballs, chicken meat loaf, etc.

The grinder is a good idea. I have a KitchenAid mixer and have a pasta attachment. I'll look into the grinder attachment. If I don't have to buy a whole other piece of equipment I'll be stoked. I'm borrowing a friend's Magic Bullet to see if I want to make that a permanent member of the family.

Aside from the food scale I think the thing I use the most is my slow cooker.
I use Pam a ton, too.

Kitchen Companion by Polly Clingerman is the book I was thinking of. GREAT book. Had actually been recommended to my by a friend years ago when she had RNY surgery.

All of the above are fantastic ideas!  I'd add:

Lots of small tupperware containers.  I have them in 2-6oz sizes.  They make portioning out food a breeze, and make packing lunches and breakfasts for work super easy.

Multiple Shaker Cups.  I have probably more than needed, but I never have the excuse that my protein shaker cup is in the dishwasher.

Magic Bullet/Food Grinder (as Rob recommended)/Blender of some sort.  They are great for pureed foods and also great later on for making frozen protein shakes....sauces...grinding up meat..etc
