Becoming a Personal Trainer
I think you would be great.
Also how about working with overweight teens? My daughter really needs a trainer. She doesn't listen to mom and dad.

Hi Hford,
I'd rather have you than some person who has never had a weight problem. They have NO clue about how hard it is to move large bodies in a safe and successful way. That goes for the certified as well those who "wing it" in some gyms. There's a huge difference in helping a 125 pound woman to tone, strengthen, use the equipment versus a 225 pound woman. I am so fortunate that the trainers at my fitness center are all certified and one of the women has been dealing with weight issues her entire life. She's empathetic, but she also can be a bit of a task master if she doesn't think you are giving your all.
From following your posts for a while, I think your whole attitude toward exercise is wonderful and I can't imagine a better person to become a PT. In fact, when you think about it, you are a perfect example for everyone.............you lost weight (how is irrelevant) AND you have become a very fit person.
Bottom line: GO FOR IT!!!
Good Luck
Ree

do it!!! I was at the gym today thinkin bout gettin a part time there just bcuz it's close to home and convinient, although i'm sure the pay would suck... lol
Ive worked with a number of personal trainers through bix, box corporate type gyms like 24 hour fitness....with places like that, I could see how disclosing WLS could be a set back to getting employed by them. I received a lot of negativity from the trainers when I indicated i was planning and then had WLS. Hell, i even told my last PT i was planning on plastics and he gave me all kinds of crap about it.
But for smaller gyms or even self-employment, I think any reputation for losing weight and keeping it off gets you street cred ;)
