Losing my MIND!
Is anyone else losing their mind about surgery next week???????
I cleaned my house saturday for 10 hours! Still not done, gotta clean the bedroom and bathrooms and pack! I have my list of things to pack:
slippers and comfy socks
shampoo & conditioner
deo
toothpaste
toothbrush
brush
gown
clothes to come home in
pillow
chapstick
undies
What else am I forgetting?

If you've only got one or two nights stay you won't need the shampoo and conditioner.
You'll be given support hose to prevent clots in your legs, and some "sticky" socks so you don't slip and fall and sue the hospital, so leave the slippers and socks at home.
You may be too nauseous to brush your teeth.
Here's what I took (I had one night stay):
The clothes I was wearing (yoga pants, t-shirt, sports bra, underwear, sweats, sneakers, no socks).
Cell phone and charger
Purse that had ID and the usual misc. purse stuff in it and my obsessive compulsive stash of Blistex.
I did take advantage of the toothbrush and toothpaste the hospital gave me once the catheter was out and I wasn't as nauseous, but it was almost right before I went home. I figure the nurses had smelled worse than my post-surgical dry mouth.
When I left I just put my clothes back on minus the bra and was done. I took a shower the next day.

Take an extra pillow to hold against your tummy on the way home. Also, a little thing of body wash. I wasn't allowed to shower the first day, so I had to make do with body wash on a washcloth and a "spit bath", so washing my hair was out....baby powder or the dry shampoo can help with that. I also took a pair of slide on sandals that had grips on the bottom...slippers were scary, since I was on pain medication, I was afraid that anything with a slick bottom increased my risk of falling, and I didn't want to take that chance.
Good luck!!! It will be great!

I had my surgery last week. No worries. For me, it was a breeze! And don't worry about packing much at all! I wore the same clothes home that I came to the hospital in, so I just packed an extra pair of undies and wore flip flops. The ONLY things I used...toothbrush, toothpaste, chapstick, hair brush, hair clip, fresh undies, face lotion, deodorant, cell phone charger, my own pillow for the drive home.
The hospital had HUGE gowns that were decent and easy for walking and already had all your "tubes" routed through the arm holes, etc. You will likely already have skid free booties on too. I stayed over night and washed up, but did not care to wash my hair...just put it up and waited til I got home.
Good luck to you! It will go by very quickly! It's an exciting ride

You will wake up with a horrible taste in your mouth and you can't have any fluids for the first 24 hrs. You may get something to rinse your mouth but nothing to swallow. For me Tic Tacs were a must . I dozed with one in my mouth for 4 hours.
Ear plugs. I am a light sleeper and was near the nurses station.
Best of luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.

With Dr. B you can have fluids the same day once your leak test comes back, you will not recieve a catheter, you will not have drains, you will only have the leg squeezy things on ( he doesnt require compression socks just the squeezy things when your in bed), you will be put on your pain pump in recovery, they will give you lovonox injections starting that night or early next morning, you will be allowed to get up and walk whenever you want too (I did mine all hours of the night and day the nurses don't mind) You can take a shower the next day. He uses skin glue so no bandages, stitches, or staples
. The only clothes I took were the ones I wore to the hospital (gown, stretchy pants, slipper house shoes) and change of panies for each day. I didn't get any slip socks which was really strange so I wore my shoes all the time except in bed. I did however take my computer so I could post on OH.
used hospital toothbrush, toothpaste, and soap/body wash stuff. Took my chapstick and like I think I might of already told ya about the gas drops or gasx strips (I personally didn't like the strips though)
. Took some puzzle books, but that was a waste for me cause the letters were little and on pain meds was just a jumbled mess . I brought a pillow for the ride home and I didn't live near as far as you do from our hospital so it will be a welcome blessing TRUST ME! Since you do have a drive pack something to throw up in just in case you feel nauseous on the drive. I felt kinda queasy but never threw up it was a precaution though. The most important thing will be for you to walk I can't stress that enough. It helps with everything although you might not think so at the moment it is a life saver!
I cannot wait to come visit you!! I am so super excited to slide down for you on losers bench!!! Your gonna do amazing!!
