increased hot flashes and weight loss
does anyone know if there is any correlation between an increase of hot flashes and weight loss?
I had hysterectomy some years ago and still have one ovary... I have noticed that my hot flashes are increasing and becoming more frequently.. ?? have scheduled an appointment with my GYN for August.
any information would be helpful.. just curious ?

I have heard we store estrogen in our fat cells. As we lose the estrogen is released. Perhaps this is why you are having the hot-flashes. It also may be your age and where you are in the peri-menopause cycle since you still have an ovary. I have had the opposite reaction, no hot flases since the surgery. I was 5-10 per day prior to the surgery. But I have also started having periods again. I hadn't had one in 13 months. I am 54 and thought I had started menopause. Best, Sharon

Best, Sharon I too had a decrease in hot flashes since the surgery. But I was at the end of my peri-meno so I think it was just timing.
I havent had a period int over 9 months and it was 6 months before that. I was having 5-10 hot flashes a day but they slowly became less and less and now hardly ever. Thank God!
I only have one ovary and had tubes tied over 25 years ago.
And yeah you will probably have your period into your 50's LOL
Sorry to be the one to bring this sad news to you.
I think there is a corralation because of the homones that are somewhat out of balance between the gherlin being gone and the estrogen being shed through the fat cells. But it does settle down as time goes on.

I have an occasional and brief hot flash now, at almost 11 months out, but had none for months after surgery. The good news with having your period longer, I was told, is that the risk of osteoporosis decreases the longer you menstrate. I started at 10 and ended in my early 50's, though the periods were sporadic for several years before they ended. Having your periods for 33 or more years, lowers the risk. Just looking on the bright side! LOL

I am so glad this topic came up! I have notice a big increase in hot flashes. I had a complete hysterectomy in 1997. I thought I was done with hot flashes. They started about month 3 after my surgery. Thank you for the info about estrogen that is stored in fat cells. That make sense. I love this forum.
Prior to surgery, I was on hormone replacement, after having one ovary removed several years previously. After surgery, I was off the hormones and for several months, I did experience more hot flashes, especially at night. I think it was from estrogen being released from the fat cells. The problem has since subsided. I believe it will be temporary. Irritating, I know. I have stayed off the hormones.
