Tummy Tuck

Had  consultation today with a Plastic Surgeon. Thinking of having  a tummy tuck.my insurance will cover it once I reach the 100 pound mark, which will hopefully be  near october.

I'm really not so keen on the idea of surgery and recovery again. The scar from hip to hip is also a concern, but these stretch marks are far worse. Just don't know.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

Plus will this mean I am addicted to surgery? Because I asked about doing my upper arms too. My insurance wont cover that so it will be $4700 out of pocket.

i've had a tummy tuck after i had my daughter, i'm very happy to have had it and don't regret it.  even though i was 200lbs when i did get it, my stomach is flat as a board (still) and clothes fit so much better.  the scar is something i am proud of.  i call it my battle scar lol.  it's easily hidden with bikini bottoms and you get used to it.

i just hope when i get my vsg and lose weight i still have my taut hard stomach lol.

Thanks. You should ask your doctor, because the wight loss does leave excess skin.

I didnt' think ins paid for tummy tuck. Do you have to lose a certain amount of weight for them to pay?

everyone's insurance is different....   some have to lose a certain amount of weight first....some have to lose a certain percentage & keep it off for a certain amount of time.... Some only covers the panni, not full tummy tuck....

The last time I looked at my insurance, you had to prove you got rashes for at least a year caused by hanging skin...   at that time my insurance didnt cover WLS at all so since it does now, Im sure the plastic surgery pre-reqs have changed as well...

it all depends on your group ( employer) contact with the insurance carrier

I have to loose 100 pounds for them to consider it.

Im scheduled for basically a full body lift in November - arms, BL/BA, LBL with an anchor cut, thigh lift. I absolutely hate the idea of surgery, and really, I dont *want* to do it, but I dont have a choice for both my physical and mental well being - I cant live in this disaster of a body. Im going to look like frankenstein when I'm done (especially with the anchor cut vertical incision on my stomach) but ...its 100x better than what ive got now.

I dont think you need to worry about being addicted to surgery unless you find your self seeking out and having procedures that arent really necessary. Im more afraid of becoming addicted to pain pills than surgery :-p

I have not seen the anchor cut used for the stomach before. I had an anchor cut procedure used when I had my breast reduction. Be warned that youi WILL look like Frankenstein for a week or so until the stitches come out. I'm not one to get queasy or unnerved by the sight of blood, open wounds, etc., but I almost fainted the first time I had to treat my incisions at home. It didn't hurt--it was strictly the visual aspect of it. My husband had to handle it for me the first couple of days.

But now my scars aren't even noticeable at all. Why is the anchor necessary? Will it pull in skin from your back? Just curious.

I had a breast reduction in 2000. I did feel like Frankenstein, but it took about a year for my scars to be fully healed.
