My surgeon recommended this site at the initial orientation seminar.  I never would
have found it otherwise.   But I am shocked at the support group meetings that no
one else has ever even come here.

My surgeon recently left bariatrics, and I don't attend much at the hospital program.  I don't find the support groups very useful.  I have told my surgeon (who still does my follow-up care) about the site and he doesn't show a lot of interest one way or another - maybe because he's not in bariatrics anymore.

But he asks me all the time about what I'm doing, and I tell him, and it includes this site.  I just don't find normal eaters - of any stripe, medical or otherwise - have a clue about what it takes to manage my own eating issues.  I get that from other people who used to do what I did and have found a better way.

As far as meeting in a restaurant, I think it's a good idea.  When I was a pre-op, one of my concerns was what/how I would eat after surgery.  Seeing how newly post-op and long-time post-op folks eat is reassuring!  And seeing how/what to order in restaurants is a good skill, too.  I was eating at a restaurant a few days after surgery.  Well, not eating, I was sipping broth, but being with friends and family at a restaurant is something most of us have to learn to deal with.

Sure, getting together for a healthy hike is a great idea.  But I bet you wouldn't get the same turnout :)

My doctor is okay with the OH sie.  I find plenty to learn to be aware of and the support to hlp meet my goals.  It is a good site and I enjoy the people here. I love my sleeve.  Restaurants are much a part of our society's norm, but it doesn't mean we have to make unwise choices.  This WLS is a part of our lives forever, and so are making choices, so learn to choose wisely, young grasshopper.  I didn't chose this surgery to isolate myself from others.  I chose Life and to be able to work hard and play hard.  I want to enjoy every moment of it.  Thanks OH people for helping me to that!  Love ya!

I didnt mention this site specifically but I told the pysch that I joined some online forums when she asked what kind of research had I been doing on the surgery.... I think it helped her form an opinion since she mentioned that was pretty assertive ( whatever, Im on the internet 12 hours a day anyway but if it floated her boat)

My doctors nurse always recommends it,she said to me last time I was there "check out the new trackers" I laughed and told her I was using the trackers all along.I think I would go to a support group at a restaurant I think it would be fun to be with people who understand our eating plans(and find someone to go in on half of a dinner)
