Same Day Surgery?

During my pre-screening for the hospital, the nurse told me that I wasn't scheduled to stay overnight. I'll be in surgery in the morning and be sent home later that day. I was expected to stay at least one night -- has anyone else been sent home the same day?

I wasn't sent home the same day.  I do know that there is a doctor not far from here that does it...that night you go home.  Or if you live too far away you stay in a hotel for the night.  So I've definitely heard of it.

It does happen, but it's very rare.

I would still plan to stay the night. The dr will be coming in to check on you, and you'll have to be able to keep liquids down before they'll let you go, enough so to stay hydrated on your own... sounds to me like they have on paper that they are planning to keep you for one day for insurance purposes, but in those cases I have heard ususally the dr ends up overriding that to keep the patient overnight.

I may be way off base there, but it's my best guess.

Good luck!

So I was told that VSG was considered an outpatient surgery and my Doctor is doing it in thier office.  She said that I would stay overnight but not a full day ,due to be released 23 hours,  unless of course there are complications of some kind and then I would be moved over to Evergreen Hospital.  both surgeons that I consulted told me the same thing under 23 hours stay at the hospital or clinic.

I was same day, in at 6a out by 3p. It was fabulous to be sleeved and home on the same day! I had no surgery related complications, no drains, no catheter my surgeon uses none of these for sleeves. I felt very lucky to be same day.

I didn't spend the night when I had my surgery.  I was in the hospital at 10:00am and I finally went in for surgery at about 6pm.  I woke up around 8pm and was on my way home at 10:30pm.  I didn't have to worry about a catheter or any drains.  I only had the On-Q pain pump attached through some tiny tubes into my stomach.  It was a miracle worker!

It happens. Which I'm surprise, since it is a major surgery.

I could have easily gone home first day, but I have 5 kids so was glad to stay. I went home an hour after my tummy tuck and brachio, which was much more involved.
