pre exercise snacks?

 I like to save my protein shakes for after exercise. What do you all eat for a snack before exercise to keep your blood sugar up and give you energy?

Hmmm....in a perfect world, a small mocha frappacino is my perfect pre-exercise snack = caffeine + sugar.  I only do that when I'm cycling though for several hours since i'm too concerned about the sugar to do this on a regular basis. 

I run in the mornings so I don't eat before hand - if I have an evening workout, I grab a gatorade energy chew or some kind of bar - cliff bar, or something. Sometimes I'll have a fruit smoothie with a little protein in it and 1/2 cup of fruit.
