For the post-op cheaters-I want to know...
Thank you so much, Sophie :-) It just scares the bejeebers out of me when people ask questions like that, and I found it impossible yesterday to stay silent. I wish you all the best on your journey to health!

I have to disagree with you here, with all due respect.
There is absolutely everything in the world wrong with cheating in the early stages post op. This kind of thing can be fatal, if someone eats something that causes their staple line to bust open and does not get help in time.
Are there people here who have cheated and lived to tell? Yes... but why risk it? Save the foods that are not part of your current stage for the stage they do fit into.
Now, if we're talking long-term... no one is perfect. I've eaten a bite or two here or there of foods that, in any decent quantity, do not fit into my plan. However, I always track it, and make sure it does fit into my numbers. If not, I save it for maintenance.
Not trying to come across as preachy. We all have cravings, etc... but it's a very slippery slope.

I agree w/ everyone has said....you have to be becareful. I'm 9 1/2 wks out and I'm terrified of cheating and worried about my new stomach....when I'm around food that tempts me I just drink a lot of water... So I don't cheat.you have to find other ways of dealing w/ temptations when you want to cheat

I think that cheating at this point would cause considerable discomfort for a while. A few days after surgery, I had a cup of unjury chicken soup, and it just sat in my stomach for hours. It was a really bad feeling, and I know that it was because it was too soon for my stomach to handle it. So I imagine that's what it would be like if I had something I couldn't yet digest. BTW, to make it clear... the soup was NOT a cheat, but something I just couldn't handle at the time. I can drink it just fine now, and I LOVE IT.
I think the risks are blockage and irritating the stomach.

Wow, so much for an educational question...sheesh...I'd like to think that I want to know the answer to this also. I HAVE NO INTENTIONS of cheating, but I imagine sometime down the line I may be presented with a situation where I'm tempted. Your right, I want to know worst case scenario, it will most likely dissuade me from cheating if I find out popping a handful of cheerios is gonna make me **** myself senseless...come one vets...lol, give us your best horror stories!!!
Cheerios will get stuck in the staple line. They expand in the tummy. Your guts will bust open and the stomach acid will kill you instantly.

if you cheat , you will explode....
why even dwell on it, it happens , move on try not to do it again.
what could happen,, you get some pain, discomfort , and possibly throw up..
dont think about what if..
i really hope your not looking for an excuse... as in it wont hurt me if i do it once...
you are only cheating your self. sorry you would be only cheating your self ... cause you have not
