Thanks for this.  I didn't know it wasn't always weight related.

Does your mask still fit, even after the weight loss?

You could take/send the chip in from your Machine, they will run a test on it, and it will tell you if your setting is too high. The level of the setting might give you more data on whether you need to continue to use your CPAP without doing another Sleep Test.

I agree with thunder, you should be sure you don't need it anymore. Remember if you didn/t know before you started it. How do you know you don't still need it.

I am on cpap also, but I won't stop it under my doctor says I can. I do know that mine i s obstructive sleep apnea, which means in time with enough weight off, I will be able to stop it.

But some ppl have non obstructive which of course has nothing to do with weight.

Just be safe and remember its your body, you've come this far, don't take any chances.

God Bless and Good Luck, you've done amazing!

Thanks for this feedback.  I'm going to talk to my doc and I think it's likely I'll have another sleep study.

My doc has sleep apnea folks do a sleep study at six months out to see if it is still an issue.

I had obstructive sleep apnea for 8 years prior to surgery.  My apnea was directly related to my weight, so my pulmonologist felt pretty sure it would resolve with weight loss.  I was on BiPap and was considered in the severe range of apnea.
There is also central sleep apnea which is apnea caused by a malfunction within the brain and has nothing to do with weight.  Both types of apnea are life threatening.  You are at high risk for sudden death while sleeping.
After I had lost a significant amount of weight my doc suggested a repeat sleep study, which I had in July.  The results were ZERO apneic periods.  YAY!!

I would highly reccommend getting a repeat sleep study to confirm that it is resolved.  Then, and only then, would I stop wearing the mask.

Good luck!
Marie

I use a nasal mask,  not pillows or a full face, so everything still fits great.
