Don't Stress About It

I'm 11 weeks out.  I had my VGS on June 25th.  I had to do a 2 week liquid diet preop.  Other people lost gobs of weight.  Not me.  I started out at 207 and lost 8 pounds on the preop.   Since surgery I have been a stair step loser.   Never had a double digit week or over 5 lb loss even.  Lose 2 to 3 a week and then the next week nothing.  Up a pound down a pound then lose 2 to 3 pounds.   I think on those week I do not lose "How?  I only eat 800 calories a day."  Well,  I learned to just keep keeping on.   Today I was 168.    I lost 2 lbs this week.  Hope to lose another,  but I know next week I might not lose anything.  I have just come to terms that this is how my body is responding.  The weight will come off.  Just don't have certain expectation each week.  Just celebrate when you do and stay on  the plan.   I love to cook and continue to do so learning new recipes for me and the whole family.   This a life style not a quick fix.

Excellent post and I totally agree. I was a week before you and I've lost 48 lbs since the week before my surgery.

I randomly weigh myself, but my "official" weights are the ones that my PCP and my surgeon get when I have a check-up.

I'm working out, eating right, etc. My surgeon said the most dramatic weight slide comes between 6 and 9 months out so I'm not expecting to be buying new clothes every other week for a few months yet.

I don't know, I think you're doing great. You started out 3 weeks after me weighing 22 pounds less than I did, and I've only lost about 2 pounds more than you at this point. I've done everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING to  make sure I lose consisently. I measure every piece of food, I log every calorie, I work out a crazy amount (walks every evening, BodyPump 3x a week, and Zumba classes 3x a week)...

Anyway, I've decided that I can't let what's happening with other peoples bodies have an effect on me. And what am I going to do anyway, give up? No, I'm kind of in this for the long haul. So even though it's finally dawned on me that I'm not going to wake up tomorrow and be thin, I do know that if I keep doing everything right eventually ONE day, it will happen.

Good for you for not letting it get to you though!

Revised from band to sleeve on June 6th, 2012. Lost 48 pounds on my own in the 4 months prior to revision.

You're a lightweight :) Many of us who are losing fast started at might higher weights with much more to lose. I can't wait until I'm 168!!! Hang in there. You're doing great!

Comparing Lbs to Lbs does not compute! A lightweight is not going to lose the amount of lbs as someone starting with 150+ to lose. If you want to compare, at least compare EWL% (excess weight lost) that will give you a better idea.. and in that regard, you are not slow at all.. You are looking at apples & oranges.

Hi there!
You are 11 weeks out, down 39 pounds, including pre-op loss with only 23 more pounds to lose. I say you are doing fantastic!!! I am a total stair step loser too; I always have been but I still managed to lose 120 pounds in the past 13 months. You are developing better eating habits which is critical to your success. Keep doing what you're doing and you will get there!

Hi Jenn
Was needing your advice.  I notice on the OH site that mostly everyone stays around 800 calories.  My drs PA said I need to eat net 800 calories.  So I would be eating gross 1000 a day to do that with the 30 minute work out I do every morning.  Do you eat 800 gross or 800 net per day.  I too am a slow looser.  My protein levels were only 14 % at my one month check up.  She said I need to eat 100 grams aof protein now instead of 70.  I log everything. Any adice you may have for me would be so appreciated.
Thank you Tracey

Hi Aled1223!!!! Great perspective and necessary reminder for some of us who tend to put over emphasis on the scale. It's hard not to when you've changed so many of your old habits, increased your activity level, drastically lowered your caloric intake and are so focused on what you choose to eat or not.

But you are absolutely right - if we keep keeping on, we'll get to where we're going.  I can't say I've mastered this revelation - lol - but I remind myself of it every time I hit that short stall.  My weight loss has been similar to yours - i have periods of extreme loss and then several days of no movement at all. I try to balance the disappointment that always shows up by looking back at where I've come from.

11 weeks is no time and you've done extremely well!!! Keep the positive attitude - you'll look up after while and realize you're where you planned to be and the ride wasn't as bad and you thought.

Great post! Such a good reminder not to compare our progress against others' on this journey.
