I think a big part of what I am planning on being lasting success, has been counselling I have received. Seriously. It's huge. I started about 6 months before I had surgery and began facing my broken parts in my life that I have used food to medicate. And changing my relationship with food. Letting myself feel my feelings - even the not good ones. And allowing people to get close to me...weight is a natural barrier that I used to keep myself from being truly known by others (and even myself in many cases). I'm still working on that...but I am much more aware. Just being aware of why I am eating or what food was replacing in my life, has helped me make better choices.
Protein first. Protein shake for breakfast most every day. And lots of exercise...lots of different exercise. I have done 5K's, Zumba, walking, running, bootcamp, flag football, volleyball, weight lifting, water aerobics, elliptical, spinning, and biggest loser workouts. I get bored really easy, so I try lots of new things to keep moving...some things are more fun than others, but I can always change it up.
Also, making time to take care of myself is a big challenge. In August I only lost 6.6 lbs (my lowest month to date)...but a lot of it was because I was struggling with some big issues in my marriage, and the wear and tear of caring for two small kids all summer by myself just took it out on me and I wasn't making decisions to take care of myself or make time to exercise.
Oh and keeping into perspective...it's not an all or nothing game...sometimes I'll mess up...but I don't have to stay off track for even an entire day...I can get right back into it.
