OK....... in the nicest way.......Not trying to Jack anyone..... just trying to get us on the same page.....

It sometimes amazes me that some folks can come onto a WLS forum and make comments that come across like.......

You See......I'm special......

- My life evolves around food......

- I think about food all the time......

- I have an addiction to food.......

- I've tried every diet......

- I have no will power

- I have a sweet tooth......

- Food calls my name.......

- I get hungry watching TV commercials......

- We plan our vacations around food.....

So...... you get the idea......

A little hint....... to get here to this forum......you/we got food issues.......Maybe not all of them..... but probably most of them...... You, me......were not so special...... and trying to come off like you got it worse...... is gonna take a big sell job.......

Just a reminder.......

AMEN FRISCO!!!!  Great reminder!
For me personally, even at over 14 months out...it is still an everyday choice to stay on the right track, it may be easier, but still a choice!
We did not get to the size we were pre surgery by eating carrots! :)

I tell you what, I agree with you about 95% of the time, but this is an area where I differ. I think it is substantially harder for some people than it was for me. Here are just a few reasons why I think this.

1) I have an incredible support system; between our doctor, our NUT, all of you guys, and my husband who makes most of my food, I have the support that very few people get.

2) I got the education from our doctor that put me on the straight and narrow from the get go. You would be surprised ( or maybe not surprised at all) if you knew how many people I talk to everyday who's doctor gave them a plan that has really set them up to fail. I am not kidding. I got off the phone with someone the other day who was told to eat mashed potatoes and cream of wheat right after surgery and to not exercise until they were at least six months out. Are you surprised they are stuck and calling me for help around the 8th month out? In addition to that, they received the larger sleeve to begin with, and they wonder why they are hungry all the time. They really don't know, Frisco, and that is not the same as what we had to deal with at all.

3) When things go south, I have great role models to reach out to, and I have seen others succeed. Have you been to some of the other support groups? Enough said.

4) I also think some of us have less experience around healthy food. Some people mostly ate junk all their lives. We ate some junk, but we were also pretty aware of what healthy clean food is like and we were able to cook that for ourselves. Some people have never ever cooked. They are at a severe disadvantage.

5) The whole addiction to carbs, I don't really know about, but I do know that some of us are much more reactive to insulin and this too makes a huge difference.

Of course I have disadvantages too that I could point out, like that men lose so much faster, taller people lose faster and younger people usually do better. I guess what I am saying is that we each come into this with our own set of pluses and minuses and it's up to us to make it work.
