Week from Hell and surgery on Tuesday!
This by far has been the worst week i've ever had and I haven't even had surgery. I broke out in Hives which landing me in the ER two nights in a row by the second time they gave me a shot of steriods and allergy relief. The next morning all the Hives were gone and I was feeling great. Then around noon I was feeling really bad and the next thing I knew my blood sugar level was topped out at 257 which is extremely high for me (185 is the highest I have ever had). They warned me that this may happen from the steriods but man I have been down for days over this. My last day of Predisone is tomorrow and then I have surgery on Tuesday. I hope that everything goes well and I can get past all of this and start enjoying this new journey.
I was Approval for surgery after a 4 month weight management program. Surgery is scheduled October 2nd, 2012.
drink water to get your blood sugar down. You will be fine, good thing it happened before surgery, but sorry you had to go thru it. I use to be diabetic till 3 days after surgery. Then I am normal unless they give me steroids, then it goes up from 80 to 190. You will be fine. Do you have the foods you will need the first two weeks after surgery? Snapple, water, crystal light, sf applesauce for crushing meds, yogurt, campbell's healthy recipe cream of chicken/mushroom soup, cream of wheat, eggs, tuna, mayo, mini chopper to mix and blend; cottage cheese, good luck... Pat
Wow, sounds likeyou have been throught he wringer. I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday too andif you have seen my posts - you know I have had some problems the last two weeks - originally was scheduled for Sept 18 and delayed til Oct 2. If you ar elike me - the nerves are really setting in - I did not have to do a pre op diet - just liquids tomorrow and bowel prep (3 bottles of Mag citrate - OMG - I dread that) so I have been having food funerals and today - ended up feeling sick (guess it was anxiety) so didn't even have anything good as a last meal. Went through this two weeks ago too - even did prep and then learned surgery was canceled - so while I have been able to get my last favorites in - I realize that I am wondering if I can be successful in the long term. Gosh I hope so - self pay and I need to lose this weight - bad knees, diabetes, sleep apnea - list of things like so many others but I am 61 and this is my chance to live out my last years healthy and mobile.
Let's keep in touch - as surgery date buddies - here's to us and our success and a great new life - starting on Tuesday!!!
