I finally got my 5k down to a solid 30, but after the 3rd mile my splits go up over 10:30 and I can't get them down! It's been making me crazy! LOL

Keep pushing you will get it! I am still working to run my mile in under 9 mins... but I have 60LBS to till I hit my goal - i imagine it only gets easier!

It does get easier, each pound gone makes it a little easier! I have just been training so long for distance that I didn't really push myself to hard in the speed department, but now that I got the distance down (my long runs are a solid 10 now every week) I would like to get a little faster just so I don't run up against time limits in future races (tri's tend to have shorter limits then just running events). I figure 16 months ago I could not run for 30 seconds at a time, and now I run a solid two hours, if I NEVER get to the Sub 60 I will still be happy with how freaking far I have come

That's Awesome! I hit 5 miles and think there's no way I can run any further. I can't imagine running for 2 hrs straight...but I will.

I hit a wall at about 5 miles for a bit, I would get to the end of it and just throw it in, when I saw that I was just kind of accepting that it pissed me off enough at myself to pu**** (can you tell I am super competitive, even against myself LOL). So I shot for half a mile extra the next time, I hit that half a mile and BAM I knew I could keep going and hit 7 miles that trip, and then walked my way to 10 miles. The next few trips I would run my solid seven and just keep adding more running, less walking and in less then a month I was doing the solid 10. I also increased my short runs, so instead of 3 miles I upped it to 4, and then found a route that would give me a solid 5. So two or three times a week I do five miles, and then once a week I do 10 (with a 1 mile walk added to the end now, trying to get my longs up to 15 eventually).

Yes, you are insanely competitive! After Xmas I start a 16 week program to train for the marathon. It's been a goal for 20 years so I'm gonna really try. I just ordered a GPS watch to track time/distance. There's a bunch of plans online...they're all pretty similar and incorporate some circuit training. Right now I run 4-5 miles a few times a week..sounds like you're already half way there!

I just want to be happy, whatever that means... and get rid of some of these NEW health problems acquired after surgery. Oh, and finding an amazing guy would be good too.
