I had 1/2 a cup of extra lean ground beef tonight for the first time since surgery!  I am 10 months post-op and early out I had ah ard time with pork and beef but I thought I'd give it a go after I had a successful time with some rib eye steak a few weeks ago.  It was a disaster!!  About 5 minutes after I was finished I started getting terrible nausea and a feeling like the food was stuck like a large clumb in my sleeve.  I proceeded to be nauseated with the foamies for 2 straight hours so I decided to go for a walk to see if some fresh air would help!  While out and about I started getting heart palpitations and sweating profusely.....which is nuts given the fact that I live in Canada and we aren't exactly in the middle of summer!  After about 2.5 KM of walking I actually started dry heaving on the side of the road!

What a terrible terrible EXPERIENCE!!  I will not be touching ground beef anytime soon!!  Nasty.  What is with these finicky sleeves?

That sounds bizzare since it lasted so long! That had to be miserable. Did you have anything else with the ground beef? Dry meat is usually harder for me (though I can eat it) but I find if I mix it with some kind of sauce it goes down much easier. I found these great Campbell's sauces to mix with my ground beef/turkey/chicken.

Alison I actually put it on some shredded lettuce with a wee bit of tex mex cheese and salsa!  It was completely moist!  It was a bizarre experience!

I sympathize. I do not like Ground Beef anymore. It goes down just fine, but it doesn't sit well in my sleeve. I used to love a burger. I tried to make one at home VSG style. Got down about 1 ounce and that was it. Had to stop or trouble was going to be knocking at my door big time. I just stay away from it now.

Go figure - I can eat steak, brisket, chicken, turkey, fish, pork, BUT NOT GROUND BEEF! Luckily, Filet Mignon goes down just as easily as before!

Your sleeve has "champagne" tastes....methinks I'll use that after my surgery..."I'm sorry....my sleeve doesn't do burger...it'll have to be the filet mignon" :-))

I'm teasing...mostly nervous energy before sleeving on Friday...

I so feel for folks who can't tolerate certain foods after surgery...one of my big worries.

I can live very easily without ground beef, believe me! Funny, I can eat meatloaf because it's a blend with the bread crumbs, etc.... But because it's so carb heavy I stay away from it. Just thought that was interesting seeing as how my sleeve hates ground beef now.

Little trick I saw online - instead of bread crumbs used ground up pork rinds as the binder...I love meatloaf and turkeyloaf, so I was searching for a low carb way to do it...you can't tell the difference at all.  Would probably work in meatballs too...

Reading this is concerning to me.  I'm a bit confused still, I guess.  Did it feel and taste okay WHILE you were eating it or no?  I worry about this, I guess I didn't realize that you can get this kind of reaction AFTER you're all done eating something.  I figured you would start to feel ill/uncomfortable while eating it and this would be "the sign" to discontinue whatever it is you're eating.

I had thought this a more typical response with those people who have had RNY.  Does it happen often with VSG?  It also seems that meat is the culprit, when there is a culprit.  It's a yucky way to figure out what does/does not sit well in the new tummy.

It started to feel yucky just as I was finishing up eating it.  Towards the last 1/4 of the meal I started thinking hmm this feels a wee bit strange!  I feel better now though!  LOL
