They are great and inspirational
Thanks to Keith for posting this.......
I remember this guy from my early days. Pretty cool dude and gives a very real message !!!
This video he made has a lot of messages in it that are very easy to read into.......
- All you gym people and distance runners gotta remember....... Chances are.... this level of exercise is short lived. Very very few can make the gym and extreme exercise a life long activity. Not to discourage you or anyone from doing those things during WL to lose the weight. Just understand when you stop (and chances are you will stop) you need to decrease intake a lot and re adjust your balance point!!!!!(which is VERY HARD to do)
That's why I am a proponent (he basically is saying the same thing in the vid) of finding activities that are enjoyable and you CAN DO for the long haul and develop a repeatable/consistent intake vs. expenditure of caloric balance.
- He says "The Monster still lives inside"....... so true....
- He says "Learn new habits during WL...... so true....
- Eating more..... sleeve stretch.... Those of you who think the sleeve can't stretch..... Think again...... the sleeve not only can stretch in width..... it can elongate and stretch in length.
Those of you who think sleeve size does not matter......generally wrong.....you CAN lose and maintain on any size sleeve..... the larger the initial sleeve..... the more it can stretch (exponentially) this just makes it harder to maintain for many.
He mentions gradual increase of intake. Yes..... even though if we were to do this perfectly we would never find this out because the only way you find this out is eating towards full which is wrong.
Don't get me wrong..... I really appreciate his honesty and he puts these videos online for us to go to school on.......
The one big observation I can detect in this video....... (I could be wrong.... it's happened twice before) I do not sense a good foundation. I don't hear much pre education or any aftercare. He has a ton of observations of his and his wifes experience and that seems to be about it.
He pledges to recommit.... let's hope there is a great follow up video !

Thanks for this. I will never be a gym rat. I don't enjoy it, and what is more, I am HORRIBLE at doing things that require me to leave my house and be somewhere else, and oh yes, dress appropriately--other than school or work.
I am basically a sloth, too, while we're at it.
And by wearing my fitbit and using the Wii Fit I have managed to increase my physical activities and measure/track them and I feel good about it. For most people it wouldn't be enough. It fits my life, though. And it works for me.

Thanks for the link - I had not seen these before. I think there is such a high that goes along with the weight loss in the beginning that we get overly confident. Has certainly happened to me on the countless diets over the years. Certainly feels like a high the past few days as I get to try on old clothes in smaller sizes and I move more freely, etc. Watching videos and reading posts from folks like you are hopefully going to keep me grounded for the long haul. Thank you for always taking time to "pay it forward" to us newbies!
It's clear that my psychology is such that I need compelling external controls for my eating and fitness behaviors. If I can lock those into place, I'll be OK. I know from the past that if I don't, I won't sustain the effort over the long haul.
I don't care for the gym myself - I don't *mind* working out, but I find that I need a lot of personal encouragement and coaching - at one point i had a personal trainer and did that for 2 years (many years ago) and it worked. But other things intruded the financial burden intruded, etc. etc. and worse, I thought I could "handle it" on my own. Then one day I was at nearly 300 pounds again.
So this time I'm trying to create life-long goals that drive me toward working out for a reason. Experiences I want to have in the future that require a certain degree of fitness, for example. So far that seems to be working. I want to push myself as far as I can go - by myself - then if that starts to diminish, I'll need to add an external coach when I begin to lose focus. It is important to me, however, to try to re-train myself to be more self-motivating. I'm using my later weight loss period and my early maintenance period to help in that regard, as I can try some things while my food cravings are still held down considerably by the fairly recent surgery.
Like others here I've set my sights on completing an athletic challenge that would both result in a high level of fitness plus a feeling of accomplishment that also requires a significant training period to achieve. Having that goal, plus a reasonable training plan to get me there should help with the exercise component of my new life. We'll see. If not then I'll need to hire someone to kick my ass.

I watched the video too, it looks like a year ago he caught himself from sliding down a slippery slope. I searched for more videos and that was his last update. I hope he was able to turn around his behavior.
Jubjub, I'm with you, I'm interested in a physical goal competition that is going to require a considerable training program. short term in the next 3 months I'd like to complete Jillian Michaels 30 day shred on each of the three levels. After that I'd like to complete the P90X. My sister is a P90X instructor for Beach Body so she's already said she would help me. After that I want to enter into a type of what could loosely be called martial arts but its the hand to hand combat for American special forces called SFC Combatives. After a level of achievement there I want to enroll in a Krav Maga training. Actually both myself and my wife are going to be doing this. I think this will offer at least 4-5 years of sustained work outs. But I'm also looking forward to to gaining back many of the things I used to do, kayaking, scuba diving, hiking camping. Prior to gaining ~130 pounds I was prett active, I want that back now that me and my wife are empty nesters (YEA!)
