Please Please any advice is appreciated, I cant stand my Nutritionist. I am at the point where I can basically eat everything, however I try to pick the healthiest option and stick to my plan. "My Plan" thats where the problem comes in I dont have one :( My surgeons office told me exactly what to eat for the first six weeks so now that I am able to eat almost everything I must say I am definitely  overwhelmed. I NEED to know about how many calories to consume daily along with Protein, Sugars and Carbs. My nutritionist  answer to me was dont worry about any of that. Im am so scared to fail that I feel like I am obsessed with everything that I put in my mouth. I UNDERSTAND that every surgeon is different nut to all my knowledgeable OH friends please I need some type of boundaries.

Ok, I will tell you what my NUT told me. He said that by 6 months out, I should be able to eat 1/2 C of food and I should be consuming from 600-800 calories a day. As far as carbs go, he said no more than 30% of the 6-800. Basically, I will be keeping my carbs under 40, calories from 600-800, 60-70 grams of protein. I don't go over 5 grams of fat (if I can help it), and keep my sugars under 6 g of sugar per serving.

I'm not sure how far out you are, but I've just hit the 5 week mark. Just make sure to get your proteins in!

Another crazy thing is I am worried about protein because I was never able to do the shakes, so I def to eat all my protein my NUT said "I could care less protein is not important" ??? WTH EVERYONE is always saying how important it is lol! I swear if anything is making me bat**** crazy its HER lol

Um protein is the MOST important! Wow, talk about a screw loose. That's the thing we all need to keep our muscles going and our bodies healing. Definitely get your protein in. I'm having a hard time with it and with the shakes as well. You can get unflavored whey protein and add it into your foods, like eggs and stuff.

You need a new nutritionist.

I think that most will agree that during weight loss you should go for between 600 and 800 calories keeping carbs 40 grams or less per day.  Keep in mind a minimum of about 80 grams of protein and logging this all in myfitnesspal.com to keep track.  This way if you start going off plan you can identify where things went wrong and you will know what to do to fix it.

I have found this pdf online and I think it looks pretty good.  I usually post this link for those that aren't getting the support from their nutritionist.  It is designed for people that have had VSG and is from the University of Missouri Health System.  I personally did not use this guideline but I have posted it before and people have enjoyed using it ...

I would go ahead and download this and I hope it helps.  Good Luck.

Your NUT sounds like mine. Our plans calls for 8oz of juice a day, 3 meals with no snacks but drinking milk between meals, and in all three classes I attended once never talked about the importance of protein. Needless to say I'm hear taking notes instead of listening to her.

My plan is very different from some on here, but I will tell you what I do at over 9 months post op.

Calories 1,000-1,200 per day, at least 80 grams of protein per day.  No carb counting, just focus on protein and keep carbs low.5-6 small meals per day, eating protein first.

I personally think you need to express to your nutritionist/surgeon how you feel, if you feel you cannot do that, find a new nutritionist.  While the advice on OH can be good, sometimes it is not based on facts.  This is a journey to LEARN how to eat correctly and nourish our body, not to be on crash diet the rest of our lives.  Be careful not to become so obsessed that you are more focused on food now than you were before surgery.

Many people on here keep their calories extremely low.  While it may work for them, it may not work for you, nor be the most nutrient rich diet for you, for your over all health.  This is about learning how to correctly feed our bodies.

Contact your surgeon's office and ask specifically for a calorie Limit and protein number to shoot for at the stage you are at.  They should be able to give you one.

“Not many of us are living at our best.  We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains.  The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills.  We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence.  What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb.  What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.?  JRM
