Carb Nazi..... Really?????
It works for me because the only real leeway I have is on my carb portion, which is the smallest.
My overall meal portions never changed from WL.... Just content.... A few more fat calories and a carb boundary of about 80

LOL -- I am a self-proclaimed Carb Nazi -- and used the term long before I came to this board. I was very successful on Atkins ****il I wasn't ) -- and when I started going back to low carb eating, I told my the people that I eat with frequently that I had to go back to being a Carb Nazi because that level of vigilance was the only way I'd ever been successful at losing weight - and even then, it's slow.
For me, that's between 20-40 carbs a day -- mostly 20-30.
But that's just how I lose weight and how I view my personal level of obsession about carbs.
What anyone else eats is their business! No comments from me about what I eat or what they eat unless I am specifically asked.
Given that some nutritionists, even bariatric ones (ie, Margaret Furtado, previously with Hopkins and author of a few cookbooks for bariatric patients), recommends between 70g by 3 months out; 100g by 6 months out and 130 by 1 year out -- I guess 70 could be low carb. I'm reading her latest book now.
She says, " From my clinical experience, I'm convinced that patients who are able to reach these carbohydrate milestones have more energy, are better able to oxidize fat (the search confirms this), and , anecdotally, seem not only to lose more weight, but have an easier time adapting to a maintenance diet of a healthy balance of fruits, vegetables, protein and good fats."
She has been a bariatric nutritionist for more than 10 years (a nutritionist for 10 years before specializing in bariatrics), and has been at Hopkins, Massachusetts General and Tufts. She's very well-known in the bariatric nutrition world.
What I think -- different strokes for different folks!
I followed the "Cirangle" plan and now sit 20 pounds below goal. In maintenance I follow Margaret's more "balanced" approach.
When I make it back for follow ups, they look at me like I am a freak of nature because the majority of people get that 70% EWL and do not make goal.
I wanted results. Low carb got me there....maybe I should get a carb nazi tattoo!

Actually, your still on his plan.... He advocates any healthy eating approach that allows you to maintain your weight. His concentration is that you maintain your weight for a better quality of life. His most common line if your maintaining is "just keep doing what your doing" and "is there anything I can help you with"

I'm guessing that Margaret suggests that only certain carbs be eaten within those guidelines, though? I know nothing of her work and would appreciate knowing.
I'm with you about the carbs during the WL phase. Lately my carbs have been below 30g/day. MFP has been such a blessing in planning my food for the day to see how this or that adds up. When I get to maintenance, at such time I've been told my carbs should be up to something like 120g/day, then I'll have to figure it all out.
I don't eat carbs on purpose because I just don't want to test my own waters of triggers right now. With kids in the house and with preparing meals for my family, I am exposed to carbs every darned day, and I just won't put one in my mouth, not even a grain of rice. I'm blessed not to be hungry thanks to my surgery, so if I stray it will be purely head hunger and allowing bad food habits to sneak back in.
She advocates fruits, veggies and whole grains. It's hard to fit that in especially early out and I eat those in maintenance.

I know it's just a term
but I hate anything Nazi termed ( ok the soup Nazi on Seinfeld was funny)
Can we use carb police??
i stall at carbs above 40 for sure... Sitting at the same weight for 23 days 3 months out when it's still supposed to be easy. Lowered my carbs to 25 and added in an hour long work out.. Scale is moving again!!
low carb for me baby cause that's what's gonna get me to goal... And that is 100 percent excess weight gone!!!
Thanks Frisco for trying to help and not giving up, even when you get beaten up for your efforts!
You can be my carb police any day :) it's an honor!
I think your last post explained it well... Maybe keep that one to cut and paste every time it comes up. You do it to help others reach goal!!
