I'm yours when you're ready, but the distance may be a bit of an obstacle!

I'm no where near goal, but have been having the same thoughts on what's considered my normal BMI, I"m a 48 year old woman, at 5'0", my "goal" is somewhere around 110.  I set that as my goal on my ticker, but honestly, I'm not sure I'll be there.  I have my 4 month follow up on Monday, I'm going to talk to the surgeon and see what her thoughts are.  My PCP told me basically the same think Kairk said - where you feel your goal is, is where it is.. you will know when you get there, that's what I'm counting on.

It will be easier for you to tell when you are closer to goal.  Personally, I would set your goal at a bmi of 25.  If you get to a bmi of 26 or something and hit a point that you look and feel great, then you can stop.  Otherwise, if you go the other way you may not make it to a place you should be.  Just my humble opinion.   Karik is right though- a normal bmi is not a good fit for everyone.  My hubby would have to lose 45 pounds to get there, and for sure that would be too much.  When he was scanned he was told 215 would be a target weight for him.

My surgeon talked to me about it before surgery. We set a 'first' goal weight of 150 for me for my height and age, etc. That would put me at a 'normal' BMI if there really is such a thing - lol. I'm just a few pounds from that first goal weight and not quite 8 months out. I plan on blasting on past that to around 135-140 hopefully by my 1 year surgiversary - that's my own personal goal. BUT it all depends on how I feel and look. Right now I don't think 150 is low enough for me. I still have a serious belly roll that is driving me crazy. I'll know it when I feel it I'm sure. But right now if I were you I would set a target goal and try to hit it first and then adjust as necessary. I didn't get this surgery to just hit a normal BMI. I did all this work to feel better, be healthier and look better too! Good luck. You'll do great!

My goal was 160 since 155 was the lowest I had ever weighed as an adult through WW and other weight loss programs.  Guess what, today I weigh 132, wearing size 4 jeans and a size small shirt.  I didn't try to shoot past that goal, it just happened.  I guess what I am trying to say is, don't focus so much on the "goal weight".  Instead go with the flow and when you feel like you have lost enough to satisfy yourself and your doc, then start learning maintenance.
