For the Coffee Lovers
I won't be giving up coffee, but thanks for posting.

Next, she's talking about ingesting over 300 mg of caffeine - roughly 5 standard cups. I drink 2-3 a day, switching to decaf at noon, so even if I cared about her opinion I'm well under her threshold. (And I still don't know who she is or what her credentials are - if she has any. You don't see many physicians or researchers talking on YouTube wearing workout clothes)
Note that although she lumps coffee and caffeine together, they're not one and the same thing. Also, she is mostly talking about massive intake - see my second point.
Next, since studies show that MODERATE intake of caffeine reduces the risk of both Alzheimer's and type 2 diabetes and I have both in my family, I could reasonably think of my 2-3 cup habit as "medicinal" in nature. (My Mum, at only 78, is pretty close to vegetative)
If my doctor had concerns about my coffee intake I'd seriously consider making changes. Since he's absolutely delighted with my weight loss, diet, caffeine intake and general lifestyle I think I'm just fine.
Last point - being on the Internet (or YouTube) doesn't make it true.
So - want a coffee? Decaf, of course, since it's past noon.

You are right it is one person's opinion. She is an internet personality who discusses fitness and nutrition. I jus****ched a TED video about a 15 year old kid that invented a test for pancreatic cancer in less than 2 years. He's not a doctor either but he did something that companies with millions of dollars in budget couldn't do. So my point in that is that she doesn't need to be a doctor to know what she's talking about when it comes to nutrition. In fact the last person I would go to for advice on nutrition is a doctor. I might ask them for a referral to a nutritionist. You see doctors do not learn about nutrition in medical school. If they learn anything it is on their own.
But at the end of the day, I put it out there because I found the perspective interesting and while I cannot verify any of her statements, she is a very healthy young woman who practices what she preaches which in my opinion gives her some credibility.
The points she made about increased cortisol and adrenal stress are enough for me to cut it out.
I hear a lot of comments on this forum about "NUTS" (nutritionists) whi*****anada can be anyone with an interest in nutrition. A Registered Dietitian, on the other hand, is a medical professional with a focus on nutrition. I learned a LOT from my dietitian, and would definitely listen to her advice over that of an "Internet personality."
My GP is not a nutrition specialist, as you say, but he takes particular interest in his patients' eating, drinking and lifestyle habits, and has made a point of talking with me about those things during my regular appointments.

I specifically asked my Bariatric program Nutritionist about caffeine and she had no problem with it. Neither did the other Nutritionist with my Bariatric program. I don't take medical or nutritional advice from Kim Kardashian look-alikes on the interwebs. I also take most advice on these forums with a grain of salt. I am a reasonably intelligent college educated person and I take to medical journals when I want facts and cannot talk with my specialists.

Actually I was CURIOUS about the amount of caffeine in coffee and here you go. So IF you cared your 2-3 cups is right in line
From http://coffeefaq.com/site/how-much-caffeine.
By means of comparison, a 7 oz cup of coffee has the following caffeine (mg) amounts, according to Bunker and McWilliams in J. Am. Diet. 74:28-32, 1979:
7oz coffee:
Drip 115-175
Brewed 80-135
Instant 65-100
Decaf, brewed 3-4
Decaf, instant 2-3
12oz tea:
Tea, iced (12 ozs.) 70
Tea, brewed, imported 60
Tea, brewed, U.S. 40
Tea, instant 30
Other:
Mate 25-150mg
Espresso 100mg of caffeine 1 serving (1.5-2oz)
Acording to The American Beverage Asscoiation the numbers are a little different:
Coffee, 8oz drip 104-192 mg
Tea, 8oz brewed 20-90
Iced Tea, 8 oz 9-50
Soft Drinks, 8 oz 20-40
Cocoa Beverage, 8oz 3-32
Milk Chocolate, 1 oz 1-15
Dark Chocolate, 1 oz 5-35
Other data on caffeine:
Generic stay-awake pill 100mg
Vivarin 200mg
Cold relief tablet with caffeine 30mg
The variability in the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee or tea is relatively large even if prepared by the same person using the same equipment and ingredients day after day

"Moderate intake" of leaded coffee is generally accepted as 2-4 standard cups, so I limit myself to that amount. (That's the amount that is supposed to offer some small protection against type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's)
I don't get a buzz or energy boost from coffee. In fact, the main reason I drink leaded is that most of the fun flavours only come in caffeinated coffee and a fresh, hot cuppa is my replacement for sweets and snacky things. I use a Keurig and there are LOTS of yummy flavours - Sweet Summer Raspberry, German Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Wild Mountain Blueberry, Golden French Toast...
Darn. It's past noon, so French Vanilla it is.
