Protein Suggestions?
I will begin my pre-op diet in about a week. I have been thinking about introducing it early so that it is a smooth transition. (I have some ADHD and anxiety issues, so I do worry about the diet... I figure if I begin to get use to it when it "doesn't count" it will be easier to deal with once I HAVE to do it.)
I am VERY confused about protein shakes. I bought some slim fast high protein shakes (super low carbs, pretty good) but I know people have mentioned flavorless proteins and things like that. What should I begin to stock up on? My surgery is July 10th and I start my diet around the 24th. Any and all help would be great!! Thanks guys!

The last time I checked out Slimfast shakes and Glucerna shakes and the like they were still pretty high in carbs related to the amount of protein they delivery. I don't know if your surgeon will want you to drink those postop to get your protein in.
I learned the hard way not to stock up on protein shake powder, because my tastes changed significantly after surgery. I was therefore stuck with two large pouches of Bariatric Advantage chocolate protein powder. I finally tossed them because I couldn't find anyone to take them and I sure as hell wasn't going to drink another ounce of that stuff.
FWIW I really like three flavors/varieties of shakes postop: Unjury Chicken Soup flavor, Unjury Chocolate Splendor, and Syntrax Mint Cookie.
You will get LOTS of opinions about protein shakes because there are so many varieties and so many ways of preparing them. Many people enjoy the iced coffee protein powder, for example. Unflavored protein powder comes in handy in the early postop weeks because you can add it to things like cottage cheese and homemade chicken salad (at least I did -- LOL) to boost your protein intake.
The slim fast is only 2net carbs and about 20 grams of protein.
Thanks for the suggestion! I mainly meant for the pre-op diet... I figured I would have some changes post-op but my husband has NO idea what I will need so I wanted to let him know all of the options.

Syntrax Nectars- Roadside Lemonade, Iced Tea and Grapefruit
Syntrax Sweets - Chocolate Truffle
Isopure Zero Carb RTD - Orange and Alpine Punch (GNC or Vitamin Shoppe)
Premiere Protein RTD (Grocery store)
Pure Protein RTD (Grocery store / Trader Joe's)
EDITED TO ADD: Unjury chicken soup protein powder (mixed with cottage cheese!)
Keep in mind that your tastes may change so don't go hog wild and buy a ton of stuff. Try to get samples of different proteins. Netrition.com offers a variety pack of Syntrax protein.
Good luck!
samples are a great idea!

Thanks guys! The flavorless ones I think will come in handy post-op. I just didnt know which brands to try and which ones were lower in carbs (Ive never really had to get protein shakes before besides some for a quick meal when I was too busy to eat).

I really wanted a unflavored to add to my chicken/beef broth..or coffee...i wish there was some "best of" list i could just take to gnc...i walk into gnc/vitamine shop and all of a sudden my mind is scrambled...idk where to look or what to pick :(
im pre op and i just chose the same thing to eat every day :/ its getting rough, believe me
i just chose atkins strawb/chocolate royale shakes (picked up some eas adv as well) both are fine enough
low sodium chicken/beef boullion cubes..both are "fine"
and light and fit greek yogurt strawberry/blueberry pack......
sugar free jello
thats it..literally......i have a high bmi i havve had to do thisf or 2 weeks o_0 and its nto over yet..post op will be liquid only, then puree for 3 weeks..... lol
but its ok...
im doing fine...work was hard today....we were catered with a greek flair..salad, grilled kabobs, feta..etc...and a big giant bowl of delicious looking soft in the center looking choco chip cookies
but i didnt touch..i signed his thing said thanks for lunch and just took my yogurt and stuff off in the other room :)
I have to do the full two weeks as well...
