Daily Eating Patterns!
I was wondering what everyone's eating patterns are like throughout the day; when you eat and how many times a day. I know every doctor is different but I need some help! I also don't know how many calories I should be taking in right now. Thankfully, I have an appointment with my nutritionist at the end of this month! I need some personal experiences!
I'm allowed three meals per day of 3 tablespoons each, no snacking in between. I can have liquids in between (protein shakes, skim milk, etc.). I don't have a calorie goal right now but I usually hit between 500-600 calories. When I switch over to soft foods in a month my calorie limit will be 800 cals/day and I will still be allowed 3 meals per day, no snacks, but the meals can be up to 4 ounces total at each meal. I also have a target carb range of 30 - 60 carbs per day (I try to stick between 30 and 40 though). Soft food phase will last four months for me per my surgeon's plan.
I was sleeved on 6/19.
Hi!
Didn't they give you a food plan before surgery? I have a notebook that showed every week for five weeks, then forever, what I should be eating. Also, I email my NUT and she gets back to me pretty quickly, you may want to try that.
I just checked my MFP and at a month out, which it looks like you are at, I was eating about 650-800 calories a day. I think at that time, it was all I could get in. I think the doctor's pie-in-the-sky plan at the time called for 1200, but I couldn't shove that in for another coupla months.
I ate then, and still do, three meals and three snacks.
A meal would be maybe one of these:
smoked salmon and cream cheese, 2 oz total, with four or five crackers.
2 oz tuna salad and crackers
1/2C of cottage cheese and a little fruit cup
a protein drink
1 greek yogurt
2 oz pork (couldn't then and still don't tolerate chicken)
1/2C oatmeal (dry) + one or two walnuts + a few berries
2 oz ground beef+spaghetti sauce
A snack would be one of these:
1 oz cheese stick and a few green beans
1/2 banana (some people don't eat fruit at this point, but I did and it was fine, gave me some energy)
1/4C cottage cheese
I just ate the same things over and over, didn't matter which meal it was.
Just make sure you eat protein first, and get all of your water in. You might measure out 2 oz of something but only able to eat part of that, which is fine. If you are not measuring and logging your food, you should start now so you can show your NUT. It really helps!
I am struggling a little too with timing. My nut gives us good guidelines. For example, yesterday I progressed to foods that are easily cut with a fork....fish, meatballs, deli meats, thin pounded chicken, soft cooked veggies.
today was:
7:00 am protein shake
8:00 am boiled egg
noon 2 ounces potato soup
2 pm 2 ounces refried beans
6 pm 2 ounces chicken, less than a tablespoon cauliflower
7:30 protein shake
651 calories, 44 carbs, 94 protein
Breakfast around 7 - always a protein shake.
Sometimes coffee around 9.
Lunch between noon and 1.
Light snack mid afternoon.
Dinner around 6:30/7.
I try not to eat after dinner because I feel it impedes my weight loss.
Generally I eat between 650-750 calories with at least 80 grams proteins and fewer than 40 grams of carbs.
