Hey all,
I have read a few posts that say 90+ grams protein, 600-800 calories, 3 meals. At just over a month out I typically can only get in 2-2.5 ounces of food or about 6or 7 oz of protein shake. How do you make it work with only three meals per day?

I wouldn't be able to eat only 3 meals per day. I have 3 meals and 2-3 snacks.. just like before surgery!

At three months, I was still getting most of my protein through shakes.  My calories were very low as I only ate about 1/3 of a cup of food three times a day, but my shakes were a huge part of my program.  It took me closer to five months out until I was almost exclusively getting all of my protein from food.  Also, to be quite honest, I never really made the 90 grams, I was happy on days when I stayed above 70 grams.

Hi Anne -- I'm only 8 weeks out and have been consistently getting 80g of protein or more per day.  It takes a plot of planning and preparation on my part.  I have to eat 5 times a day to do it (3 meals, 2 snacks).  I do one protein shake and one Isopure drink (8 oz. = 15g protein) each day and that gives me 38g.  I make sure my "snacks" are greek yogurt, string cheese, or some other hard protein and my lunch and dinner are hard protein and a couple bites of veggie if I can work it in.

Don't worry too much if you're not making it right now to the 70-80g - you will get there, I promise!

3 meals plus 2 or 3 snacks.  But if you want to stick to 3 meals then 3 Premier Protein shakes would get you to 90 grams.  Or, 1 bottle Isopure for a meal- loads of protein in that.

Your metabolism is like a fire though.  Put all the fuel on at one time and it will burn brightly, then burn out.  Feed it fuel a little at a time as needed throughout the day and it burns all day.

That is what I thought...I am more comfortable with 3 meals and 2 snacks plus protein shakes to fill in the gap

I have two protein shakes a day which gives me about 60 grams of protein, then I try to have some high protein foods to get me up to 90.  I start the day with a protein shake and then depending where I am in the day with my protein I add another shake.  Shrimp (which I NEVER ate before) always gives me a big boost for my protein.

Good luck!

I usually get over 90 GMs of protein daily.  I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks, the snacks are all protein based, usually one of the snacks is a protein shake.  3 oz protein each meal, snacks can be lighter on protein, like yogurt or cottage cheese or cheese stick something like that.  If you are going high on the protein it is cleared through the kidneys so make sure you are getting your fluids in.  Some  recommend 100 ml.  I admit that is a struggle for me.  Remember I am 6 mos out, it seems like you are early.  You have to slowlly work  your way up on volume to hit that higher protein number.

I tend to have a full protein shake (with almond milk) for breakfast, chicken something for lunch, and seafood something for dinner, with an extra protein drink around 4 pm (sometimes a RTD shake, but usually Isopure or Syntrax Nectar). This results in about 80 grams of protein total, without my ever feeling over-full.

Best of luck!
