Gettin Anxious!
My bariatric office requires each patient to take a series of 6 nutrition modules along with all the medical testing and any insurance requirements prior to submitting to insurance. So talked to Ann, one of the coordinators at the doctors today since my last module is on Thursday (the 15th) and she said my case would be put in for review by the staff on the 21st, then they would submit to insurance. She said Aetna usually takes 2 weeks. then they are booking surgeries about 1-2 weeks out from when they get approval and send it over to scheduling. SO looking at surgery around the week of September 20th or so.
I am getting really anxious that I'm getting closer to joining the losing bench but I have one last hurdle that I will have to clear (doesn't need to be done prior to submitting to insurance) and that is I have to lose 12lbs more before we get the approval from Aetna to avoid going on the 2 week liquid diet. I'm currently stuck at 253lbs and need to be 241lbs before surgery. I am currently stuck and am doing everything I can to shed those last few lbs and I just can't seem to do it. I really want to avoid the 2 week liquid diet but I"m not sure what else to do. My calories are around 1300 a day, I'm drinking about 56-64 oz of water a day. I work out with my personal trainer for an hour 2 days a week and am walking approximately 1-2 miles on the other days.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This is just my opinion, not an expert by no means, but I would tell you to drop your calories by 200 and up your water intake. I was probably drinking 100 oz of fluids before surgery and I am 4 weeks post op and my Dr wants me to be drinking 80 oz now and increase as I can.
Especially if you are exercising you are definitely not taking in enough fluids.
If you end up having to do the liquid diet, it really is not that bad, by the third day I was like I got this!!!! Honestly, it helped me prepare for post op.
Good Luck on your surgery and Best Wishes!!!!!!
I agree with getting your water up there!! The more the better!! I think you should be aiming for 80oz at least... Now about your food...Honestly, without the sleeve I am not sure if you could get your calories much lower without feeling super deprived (especially with working out)... and if you are trying to avoid the liquid diet, I dont see the difference. lol Of course, just speculation. If you are able to up your walking to about 3 miles a day and increase your water A LOT then you might see a difference. Try not to stress too much about it though... stress will hold those pounds.

On the fence about self-pay options and if Mexico is the right choice (or scared of that option)? Let my experience (first time ever in Mexico) be your guide. Don't let fear hold you back!
"You make me new, you are making me new" Gungor
Definitely increase your water. And honestly, the liquid diet is not horrible...you will likely be doing it immediately post-op so why not get practice at it now?
I am so glad you are moving forward in your weight-loss journey. It won't be long until you are sharing success stories with us all. It sounds like you are really getting with the program and I'm sure you will have great success.
When I was pre-op, I kept my daily calorie intake to about 1000 calories a day, and I limited my carbs to under 30 g/day. I lost about 15 pounds per month for the three months pre-op. So I'd suggest cutting the calories a little. If carbs trigger cravings for you, as they do for me, you might want to cut your carbs, as well.
Best of luck,
Carol

I tell ya, I would do just about anything to get that weight off if I knew what lay ahead. Just saying. This surgery has changed my life in so many ways. I can't count them all. I truly is a gift from God and completely freeing. I just wanted to help motivate you. You will be sooooo glad you were able to make your goal. It will set you free. Free. Free. Free. I am two years post-op and grateful every day for the freedom.
Anyway, mostly I wanted to inspire you. I am not an expert on weight losss. He He. The only thing that has worked well for me besides this surgery is high protein/low carb. If I stick to super low carb, I am hardly every hungry. For me, hunger is what derails my efforts, pre-op anyway, so kicking the hunger is what I needed to stick to my goals. You could try that. It also helps with some water weight.
Good luck. It will be soooo worth it when you see the new you and get to live the life you deserve!
