That barium drink is not what you'll dream about drinking either!

They gave me some moist swabs to use for the day after.  You'll be so drugged up and focused on the pain from the surgery, it should pass quick!  :)

I didn't have a leak test until day 2 after surgery.  The surgeon did a scope thingy when he finished, and I was allowed ice chips after surgery, then the next day clear liquids.   But truthfully, those first few days, all I really wanted was something to just wet my mouth with.

this is what I did to combat the dry mouth.  I gargled with water or just swished it around my mouth and then spit it out.  I did not ingest any and kept my mouth hydrated (somewhat)

I just had my sleeve on August 30th. I had to do the same thing (no water) - It was tough but I made it through just fine. I'm sure you can make it too. In hindsight I would probably die much earlier if I had not had the surgery.  This was probable one of the 5 best decisions of my life.  Don't give up!  Good Luck!!!

I was allowed ice chips and hooked up to an IV. I wanted no parts of it. Heck, half the time I was sleep anyways lol.

I agree with the people who say to make sure you're hydrated prior to your NPO cutoff before surgery.  The nurses putting in your IV prior to surgery will thank you:)

Check with your bariatric coordinator  and see what "care package" items are standard.  I got the tiny sponge that you could wet with water which helps more than you think it would.  I also got a little bottle of Toothette Advanced Oral moisturizer spray.  It's spearmint flavor and a couple of pumps really seemed to help with the dry mouth. It's made by sageproducts.com but I'd check with the surgeons to see if they allow it.

Yep, I had nothing to drink the day of surgery.  I got my fluids from IV but was allowed to rinse my mouth with water and spit it out.   Honestly, I slept most of that day anyway.

Who did you decide to go with Dr wise? It sucks but I was more concerned about the leak test and passing...luckily I was one of the first to get it done and cleared for liquids..depending on your Dr and what hospital you will have to sip, track every ounce by 15 mins and wal****il they are satisfied with your results...my mom would carry my medcine cup down the hall while I walked and the I would stop at the end...sip and the walk down to the end and repeat...exhausting be worth it! Good luck
