2 days post-op...kinda miserable
I am 10 months out, 100 lbs down, and still don't feel normal. I can tell you that post surgery is tough, but it gets a lot easier. Remember that a major change has just occurred in your body. It takes time to heal firstly and then time to adjust. Ice chips and sugar free popsicles will be your friends for awhile. Follow doctor's and your nutritionist's orders, communicate with them as needed and be patient. You won't feel normal, but you will be comfortable in a short time. Normal for us was eating too much, usually too fast and the wrong things. You are on a new journey. There is a learning curve but you will do fine. I have never regretted my sleeve
It DOES get easier!! Give your body time to heal. If you feel full, stop. When you are no longer full, sip again. SMALL sips. Don't guzzle or you'll find yourself really uncomfortable with no way to fix it until it moves on through. The first few days are just about staying hydrated. If water starts to turn you off, try a Popsicle. If not that, suck on some jello. Just relax and rest. In a week, you'll be through the absolute worst!

Just 2 weeks out, but already 100% better. Not normal, but normal is what got us both to this point. I am still pureed diet (why does everything pureed look like cat food?), but I eat small and slow and feel good. Back to exercising, but convinced my husband that laundry is to much of a strain.
Counting the days until can try soft food. But like I said 100% better than you are feeling now. Release from hospital really was the miracle cure and not pushing that pain button made the nausea go away. Hang in there in 2 weeks you to can discover that pureed food always seems to end up green. :-)
Normal is relative. I felt fine right after surgery lets say about 2 days and I was good to go again. No pain no nausea. Not really able to hoover down a load of crap anymore but hey, that's not normal! So I'd say within a few days I started feeling better than normal. My blood sugar was normal, my energy level was fine and my pain was zero. There is light at the end of the tunnel, truly. You just have to put your best foot forward and stay positive. Weight loss is a mind thing and so many other things are also a mind thing - most actually. So if you are in a positive frame of mind then everything will look and feel better. Take care of you and put you first for now.
Sorry your having a tough time, it is very tough the first couple of weeks for some because of the many changes your body is adjusting to and everyone is different. I am 2 weeks and 2 days out post VSG and my initial thought when drinking was full and tight. Then the next few days got better re: the volume I was able to tolerate. My week two was a bit rough due to queasy stomach and stomach spasms and cramping. Today was the first day I didn't feel sick all day but I decided to back off my diet and return to clears and changed my protein drink to a fruit drink by Isopure which was a heaven sent for me. Hang in there and whatever you do take it slow and don't drink a sip past your comfort level... You will never forget it If you do- very very uncomfortable!
Good luck,
Lisa
Normal is a relative thing. It took me about 2-3 weeks to get in the normal zone, but even after 4 weeks, there are still a few minor lingering effects.
The first 4 days are brutal, but things get better!! You're going to be fine!
I haven't had surgery yet so I can't offer any advice but I just wanted to say hang in there! Hope you are feeling better soon.
I am 1 month out and still haven't hit my fluid goals, but I do better everyday. The best advise I got was to try different temperatures. I noticed things like herbal tea when down a lot easier. I think because it's warm and we sipped warm things prior to surgery. You don't normally see someone order a large coffee at starbucks and then guzzle it down before they leave the store lol Popsicles were another go to thing for me in the first week. Again they go down slowly naturally. I have to warm or room temperature in the morning and then I can usually do colder drinks in the evening. I was also told that even though it might be hard the colder drinks can help with the swelling right after surgery. Do you use 1oz "shot" glasses to sip from? That really helped as well. I would measure out 1 cup of fluid and pour into 4 shot glasses and I literally took a small sip every 5mins. It really is a full time job in the beginning. It will get better though. I wanted to smack everyone that told me that and since I'm still having complications I still feel the need to smack hubby when he tells me that lol Good Luck and keep us updated on your progress!
