It is being anchored to that strong foundation that holds up the house during the earthquake, isn't it?!

Your outlook is straight forward and 100% on the mark!

My husband uses the phrase "the camel's head under the tent flap." Your tent metaphor made me think of it. If we allow the proverbial camel's head (old habits, misconceptions, lying to ourselves about maintenance, denial) under the tent flap, the tent will probably fold.

Perfect description! I have been successful several times at losing the weight.  Now for the first time in my life I feel like I am utilizing all the tools available to me to be successful at maintenance.

I'm so very glad I found this site post-op because my surgeon's program is rather loose too.   One woman in my monthly group said something about how she could almost eat an entire Happy Meal now.   I wanted to ask her:  "...but WHY would you do that?!"  What was really amazing is that no one in the group, including the facilitator, batted an eyelash about it.  UGH!

It's because of the wisdom and great foundation I've been able to build through the knowledge of all the vets on here that will keep me on the straight and narrow.  And I'll always remember two things I've read on here over and over again:  #1.  Under eat your sleeve - just because you CAN eat it doesn't mean you SHOULD eat it.  #23 - WLS is not really about the WL....... WLS is more about keeping the weight off that you lost.........

Thanks, Frisco :-)

So well said...for me the foundation began when I FINALLY realized that diets don't work and that THIS is for life! Not something you can discard once you reach your goal weight!!!

I don't have access to a support group but OH has sure helped me get this far (127 lbs) and I know that i need to stay right here in order to maintain the strength of my foundation!

I love our group.  I take something away every time.

This month my "take aways" were:

1.  Every time I have ever eaten too much at a meal (except one time when my stomach capacity was just reduced from exercise and I didn't slow down and pay attention enough), it has been because I ate off a "regular" sized plate.  Usually I eat my meals off a salad plate, but when we have company I tend to use a regular plate just because everyone else is.  Twice now I've eaten too much by doing that.  I need to stick with the salad plates!

2.  I got fat from grazing.  I can see that old habit slipping in, exactly because of being busy, skipping meals, etc.  Putting the brakes on there and making sure I plan and set myself up for success.

I really got so very very lucky to live in this area, find Dr. C and his staff, and have our group to learn from!!
