Figuring out what to when
I have a surgery date and am looking forward to my new life. BUT, I am a little concerned about getting this eating this and that down pat. I realize it is a learning curve but my work life is very busy and I'm afraid I'll become so overwhelmed trying to find things I'm allowed to eat or should eat or need to eat. I guess it will all work itself out.
Try to start by logging your food. My Fitness Pal is a great app for any smartphone. This way, you can track everything from calories, protein, carbs, fat, etc. It's pretty easy & will keep you honest. You will have your sleeved tummy to help as your "tool" but we also need to get our new eating habits on the right path. It will work itself out but having some guidance is important. Follow your doctor's plan and tune into the successful vets on this board. When I started to struggle, I made some changes & it certainly helped.
Best of luck to you & congratulations on your upcoming VSG date!

I agree start logging now, just to get in the habit. Also plan what you are going to eat every day before you leave the house. That way there are no surprises. Even if you are eating out at a restaurant. look at the menu before hand and make smart decision and stick to them. Before long it will become second nature. Good Luck!!!
I had the same concern when I first started on this journey... especially since I'm a picky eater to start with.
You'll learn very quickly what works for you. Has your dr given you a food plan for post op yet? If so, you can go ahead and start perusing your options for each stage after surgery to get an idea for what meals will be like. Don't worry about it too much just yet, though, because some people find their tastes change after surgery.
If I can do this with my picky taste buds, you can :)
Errrr.... just to put a bug in your ear..... I don't leave anything to "I guess it will all work itself out".
I have a plan about what I'm going to eat every day before I even start and my lifestyle had to change 180 degrees. The VSG will help make all that possible, but you should start doing some research now on eating better and thinking about strategies for daily life.
For example, I NEVER (and I mean never in big capital letters never) brought lunch to work. I have a two decade plus history of that (and had the pounds to prove it). Now I take two servings of meat based protein to work every day because I can't rely on the situation to work itself out. Taking this to work is just part of my daily plan.
The good news is lots of plans will work, and it's true they don't really give you a specific plan. You just have to find the balance that's going to meet the goals and that you can work within so the VSG can be effective.

Google NSNG and learn the right way to eat each day
With a busy work schedule it's best to plan what you're going to eat ahead - even make your meals ahead if you can, and have your protein shakes lined up.
I do this, and sometimes it makes eating boring, but it sure beats eating something you didn't plan and then regret.
