Surgery Tomorrow and coworkers response

So tomorrow is surgery day!  I'm cautiously excited.  I really believe I can do this.  However, at first I was going to tell any of my coworkers that I was having weightloss surgery but then decided to start telling them today as I could then leave and they wouldn't be asking a ton of questions when I get back as to why I have lost and continue to lose weight.  Unfortunately, someone said to me this morning that there was a previous coworker that had the same surgery and she failed.  The person stated, "I hope you know what your getting into because she just kept eating and throwing up, it was disgusting."  I admit it made me feel a little demoralized but I guess I need to keep in mind that I am on my own journey.  I can be successful if I choose to be successful.  Oh well, gonna try not to let that comment get to me.

On a good note, I'm very proud of myself that I have been on my 1 week pre-op diet and did not cheat one time!  I've lost 15 lbs. thusfar!

Congratulations and don't let ANYONE rain on your parade and tell you that you will fail !!!  NOT TRUE !!!!  Congrats on your success so far and I KNOW that you will prove that person wrong.     WLS is a lifetime journey not just one that you can quit unless you want to fail.    Sounds like to me that person that your co-worker was speaking of gave up.   It is LOTS of HARD WORK loosing the weight and keeping it off is even harder but it is SO worth it.    Good luck on your surgery and don't let anyone steal your excitement and joy of your amazing future that is sure to come.   You will be in my prayers for much success.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

What Vivian said!  If you follow instructions, you will not fail.  I haven't vomited once since my surgery 7 months ago - not even close.  I had a lap band for 7 years, and vomited almost every day (it had slipped out of place and caused a hernia).

You're gonna rock the Sleeve!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Sorry to hear that your co-worker had negative things to say. I will never understand people that feel the need to say things like that to WLS patients. You know you are doing the best thing for you, so she should get a life!! Comments like this and my sensitivity towards them is exactly why I don't tell people I had surgery lol!

Good luck!

People sometimes think all weight loss surgeries are the same without realizing there are different options.  As a result they will lump all WLS into one broad category.

Also, these stories are very lopsided and don't represent the populations results as a whole.

Just smile and ignore it and take your own journey.  Follow the program and you won't fail.

It is really hard to figure out if you should tell or not. I have only told good friends that I had it done or total strangers.I think when people say things you need to try to ignore them. They are dealing with their own issues I feel.People can be very mean.I wanted to tell everyone before the surgery and I decided not to.But everyone makes comments on my quick weight loss.So It's one of those things you are damned if you do or don't.We just need to get bigger shoulders to have their comments roll off.Best wishes on your surgery. The most important thing is taking care of yourself and have supportive people surround you.

I have the same problem with people,  they feel they have to tell me stories of people who have failed and are sick.

I just came from my pre-op appt.  and ran into an old friend who proceeded to tell me an awful story about someone she know.  I just shut her off and went about my way.  People know nothing about this journey, but you and I  have studied and read and been to appointments and been on the site.  I grab all of the knowledge I can and don't listen because there are so many people that have  had the RNY or the band and feel like that's all they had to do, that surgery was going to fix everything, but we know that's not true.  I have decided to  "just do you", as they say; you know what's best for you.

This a journey and a lot of hard work, but it will be so worth it.  We've done are homework and are ready!  Good luck to you and me (on the 19th).  See you on the other side.

It's funny how people react. I told 1 person at work and it just went all through the place.. So the closer it gets the more they say negative towards it. I finally just refused to talk about it. Now they think it is a hernia repair and I am leaving it at that. No more questions.. But they will be watching me like a hawk..every pound that I lose.. Which I think is funny. At least I am doing something about my weight.. So don't worry about the haters..
