Can't stomach one more protein drink
Sample packs. Different brands, different flavors. Don't let yourself get burnt out on one specific kind. Immediately post op, you NEED your protein so it's really important to trudge through it. Have you tried Isopure RTD? It tastes (kind of) like Kool-Aid and has 40 grams of protein per bottle. A lot of people use it in those first few days. My surgeon required it for the first week.
Sorry your having trouble. It gets better!!

Go to "The Vitamin Shoppe" and select either cookies and cream or chocolate by either "Oh Yeah!" or "Lean Body". They seem to among the best tasting. Muscle Milk light isn't bad either and you should find it there also.
Adkins Advantage Dark Royal Chocolate is also pretty good and you can find it Walmart. HOWEVER: You must get the correct Adkins product. All the other Atkins products are NOT for us and contain way too many carbs. I believe "Adkins Advantage" is the only one with numbers that suit our process.
I taste tested many of the them before surgery and the only one I really had any trouble with was the GNC product with I consider absolute and complete garbage. It had either an alcohol or medicinal smell and nobody should ever touch that product. I also tried ISOPURE, and it was pretty bad also, though technically not a shake.
Not much else you can do really. The shakes help with protein but also provide some level of nutrients you don't get some straight protein supplements alone. If you have to choose, get the protein in which ever way you can.

I really like the Isopure zero carb Alpine punch, taste like Kool-Aid and 40 grams of protein with zero carbs and only 160 in calories per 20 ounces it is the best bang for the buck. I order them online thru the vitamin shop free shipping. Adding protein to soups or the Unjury chicken soup or Bariatruc Advantage cream vegetable soup give you a alternative from the sweet protein drinks, using broth instead of water makes the protein soups taste better. Bariatric advantage protein shakes/ pudding if you reduce the water to 4 oz instead of 8 they become pudding, I like eating the pudding much better than drinking the protein drinks
Also drink you protein drink thru a sippy cup or water bottle something with a lid so you do not have to smell the whey protein, it really make a difference
good luck -Deb
My doctor doesnt recommend his patients to use protein drinks or powder. He wants us to get it from food... they told me not to worry about protein so early on in the beginning. Stay focused on getting hydrated first, and worry less about the protein for now. Your stomach needs to heal and throwing up won't help it one bit!
I don't know what your diet plan allows at this point, but after 4 days I was allowed cream soups (strained) and string cheese. Ask your doc is string cheese is ok. Or cottage cheese. There's 6g of protein in a string cheese. I still eat it daily at 5 weeks out.
For starters, the ONLY protein shake I could stomach (and I've tried MANY) was the Premier Protein. But even those got old after a while! So what did I do? I started putting a drop of Peppermint Extract into my shakes. Made a HUGE difference for me!! Give it a try if you like peppermint.
