I was allowed to drink coffee right away.  I think I waited one week, and it does help with keeping me regular.  I'm still pretty early out but haven't had any bathroom issues yet. crossing fingers. lol

Are you going low carb?  That is far more likely to be the culprit if you are.  You need fiber if that is the case.  Coffee- I started decaf about 2 weeks out, 1 cup in the morning until I could tell how well I tolerated it... now back to my regular habits without the caffeine.

Check with your surgeon.  I waited three months.  I did have issues with constipation early on, until I started doing Miralax every day, which I do still, more than three years out.  The high protein diet makes it a requirement, for me.  These days I put it in my first cup of coffee, but until you can drink coffee, you could put it into a Crystal LIte or something.  I also don't use Miralax brand, I use the Kirkland brand from Costco, same stuff though.

I was given some regular black coffee the morning after surgery. My surgeon's nurse said that they don't want patients to have caffeine withdrawals on top of having just had major surgery ;)

As always, though. Check with your surgeon.

We were told no caffeine every.  That said, I did not caffeine for the first couple months, one cup a day for a couple more.  By six months I had slopped back into my bad habits and sure can tell when I get to much.  I took MOM everyday along with stool softeners for the first couple months and stool softeners every day since.  I have gone from 3 a day to 1/2 every day/ever other day.

I was back to my coffee with cream about a week after surgery- now at 10 months I drink my usual 2-3 cups a day.  My dr said I could have it as soon as tolerated....

I had no restrictions on caffeine after surgery, I avoided coffee the first couple of weeks after surgery as I was experiencing acid reflux. Once that got better I was back to my morning coffee routine. If you are experiencing being regular I would suggest Inulin fiber. Dissolves easily and quickly in any beverage, no taste at all.
