Time to learn how to deal with frustration

I'm still preop. No specific diet, but using the principles I've learned on here. I've been tracking everything, exercising daily, avoiding water before and after meals..  I've been eating 1000-1200 cal a day with over 100g protein and less than 100g carbs. Over 100 ounces of water.

So..the frustration is that I'm a pound UP over the past week. It is frustrating. I have to learn to accept this so I deal well with upcoming stalls. It is easy to hear that voice say "see, it's not working-there's no point".

I don't have to lose more weight before surgery-I just want to. I need to focus on the fact that I've lost 18 pounds in 7 weeks. It's so easy to want more, more, more!

I totally understand your frustration. I have been there!  You are drinking a lot of water, so if before you weren't drinking as much, you might just be carrying around that extra water.  Maybe you were even a little dehydrated before?  I bet if you give it a couple more weeks doing as well as you are, that you will see another big loss.  I think you are doing fantastic!

I was in the process for the surgery and then I wasn't cleared by the cardiologist due to my stress test.  It was something very minor but I feel it was a blessing in disguise so I've opted to continue losing the weight on my own and not have the surgery. (Not right now anyway)  I've lost 47 pounds on my own in the last 4 months!  I watch my calorie and carb intake and eats lots of protein and drink TONS of water!  I've also been working out 3 days a week and plan on uping that to 4 - 5 days per week.  Just wanted to say thanks to all of you that inspire each other every day here on OH.

"Less than 100g carbs" - that could be why you're gaining weight.  It's high.

To really kickstart weight loss, 20g of carbs is the E-ticket.  But it's difficult to maintain.  Try to shoot for around 40g and you'll see a difference.

I will work on decreasing carbs. Not sure how far I should drop down in them preop. I know it will happen more naturally post op. Thanks for the tip

I came across this post a while back..by littlemisssunshine.. and thought it may be worth passing along. I don't think less than 100g is too high for you in the pre-op stage right now..especially since you mentioned that you know you will cut down the carbs after surgery.

Just some facts to keep in perspective.

300 or more grams/day - Danger Zone!

Easy to reach with the “normal” American diet (cereals, pasta, rice, bread, waffles, pancakes, muffins, soft drinks, packaged snacks, sweets, desserts). High risk of excess fat storage, inflammation, increased disease markers including Metabolic Syndrome or diabetes. Sharp reduction of grains and other processed carbs is critical unless you are on the “chronic cardio” treadmill (which has its own major drawbacks).

150-300 grams/day – Steady, Insidious Weight Gain

Continued higher insulin-stimulating effect prevents efficient fat burning and contributes to widespread chronic disease conditions. This range – irresponsibly recommended by the USDA and other diet authorities – can lead to the statistical US average gain of 1.5 pounds of fat per year for forty years.

100-150 grams/dayMaintenance Range

This range based on body weight and activity level. When combined with Primal exercises, allows for genetically optimal fat burning and muscle development. Range derived from Grok’s (ancestors’) example of enjoying abundant vegetables and fruits and avoiding grains and sugars.

50-100 grams/day – Sweet Spot for Effortless Weight Loss

Minimizes insulin production and ramps up fat metabolism. By meeting average daily protein requirements (.7 – 1 gram per pound of lean bodyweight formula), eating nutritious vegetables and fruits (easy to stay in 50-100 gram range, even with generous servings), and staying satisfied with delicious high fat foods (meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds), you can lose one to two pounds of body fat per week and then keep it off forever by eating in the maintenance range.

0-50 grams/day – Ketosis and Accelerated Fat Burning

Acceptable for a day or two of Intermittent Fasting towards aggressive weight loss efforts, provided adequate protein, fat and supplements are consumed otherwise. May be ideal for many diabetics. Not necessarily recommended as a long-term practice for otherwise healthy people due to resultant deprivation of high nutrient value vegetables and fruits.

Hope it's helpful!

Good luck :-)

Personally, I think sticking to less than 40 grams of carbs pre-op (especially 20 grams) is a little difficult. I was eating 120 - 150 grams per day on a 1500-1600 calorie per day diet and lost 107 lbs... so it can be done.
