Hey Everyone,

I'm two weeks out from Surgery, Phase II Puree foods.  I'm really looking for ways to beef up my Protein with out climbing the carb ladder.  Do you have any suggestions on High protein items for puree or how to make them puree?  Also, where should my Carb Grams be at this point?  Thanks.

I did egg or canned chicken salad with a tbs of light mayo then just puréed it. It was good and stuff like that you can't tell the difference also the canned chicken has 12 grams of protien in a 2 oz serving

I'm currently on the puree portion of my post op and I had no idea how much protein was in cottage cheese!  20g of protein in just a few oz!  Def a daily thing for me at this point :)

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, pureed chicken with sauce, tuna fish, pureed chicken soup.  Keep your carbs under 20 if possible.  Most of your nutrition is still (or should still ) be coming from your protein drinks.  You should not be eating more than 1/4 cup at a time (less is okay too).  Take it slow, don't push anything and if something feels uncomfortable, back off and wait a little while to try it again.  The main issue at this stage is still staying hydrated.

Perfect.  I thought it was under 20g.  Thank you for your great advise. :)

I did a lot of different kinds of meats pureed with a little bit of flavorful sauce and then heated up with a bit of cheese to melt on top, like a little tiny casserole. I was eating so little on puree that I couldn't have had too many carbs regardless -- plus I was only allowed high protein foods, no fruits, veggies, grains, etc. Some of my favorite puree dishes:

--thai spicy tuna with sriracha sauce and pepper jack cheese

--turkey breast with peanut sauce  and jack cheese

--chicken breast with low carb bbq sauce and cheddar cheese

--lemon-dill salmon (the kind that comes in a little pouch) with olive oil mayo and gouda cheese

--shrimp with remoulade

--chicken breast with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese

I wouldn't worry about carbs until you reach regular food.  Right now, everything is in such small amounts that it hardly matters.  Find high protein foods that your stomach will tolerate, and let the carbs fall where they will.

Some suggestions - chili, ricotta bake (recipe at theworldaccordingtoeggface), eggs, Greek yogurt (plain, sweeten and flavor to taste), cottage cheese.  Depending on what your plan considers pureed - canned tuna or chicken mixed with Greek yogurt or cheese.

For purees its a bit tougher because pureed meat is just gross. Eggs are great, cottage cheese. Tuna fish in a food processor isn't too bad if you put some jalapenos in it. Checkout Elina7's First blog entry for green chicken soup if your run everything through the blender its really good and good protein and nutrients. I made up some old fashioned beef stew and ate it over pureed cauliflower. It doesn't last long so don't go crazy buying food for it.
