So Frustrated!!

So I'm penciled in for surgery on Saturday, April 5th.  We have JUST enough for the surgery and related costs.  I paid extra to have my birth certificate overnighted so I can get an expedited passport, and arranged for the clinic shuttle to pick me up in El Centro, over the border from Mexicali where I'll be having surgery with Dr. Aceves.  Everything has fallen into place perfectly!  Or so I thought.

My plan had been to stay in an RV park in El Centro.  But now I find out that all the RV parks in El Centro all charge extra per person, on top of the regular costs, and it adds up to way more money than we can afford.  But if I have to fly, it will cost $800-1100.  A train or bus is possible, but in the end there will be added costs--the bus comes in late at night, which means using a hotel, and the train trip will be 12 hours.  That's not something I want to endure after surgery, and it adds to the risk of blood clots.

So I'm probably going to have to put my surgery off for a whole month until I have enough money to fly out there.  SO mad!!!!

Just needed to vent. I know some people will think I'm being ridiculous, because they're insured and have had to wait super-long and jump through tons of hoops, and I haven't, but I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me.  It makes me want to go with a cheaper surgeon, but I like Dr. Aceves' reputation, and the hospitals he works in are ideal for potential emergency situations.  I don't want to have surgery in a clinic.

Lots of us have had to reschedule at the last minute for various reasons, me included, so I totally feel your pain.  Whatever the reason is - it sucks and is super frustrating.

Take a deep breath.  Now relax.

You're still going to have surgery;  just one month later.   Use that time to eat healthy,  exercise and mentally prepare yourself for the changes you will have in your life.

I know it must be desperately disappointing, but the time will go quickly.  Sometimes life throws you a curve ball; learn to catch it and move forward.

Best of luck to you.

Honestly, it's probably better you reschedule now.  Even an expedited passport wouldn't have been there by the fifth; it's currently eight days according to the state department, and it costs extra.

I know it's only a month.  Honestly, what bother's me more is the reason I have to cancel.  I mean, if there was a medical reason, or I needed more time for my own personal reasons, that's one thing.  But to have to postpone it for such a dumb reason is frustrating.

I did find some cheaper flights, and I'm still looking for another RV park a little further away.  But so far nothing is within our budget.  It's so tempting to just go with a cheaper surgeon and get the surgery for half the price. But I want a skilled surgeon with good credentials, and I also want a hospital that can handle a major emergency--one with a trauma room, blood bank, neurologists, cardio surgeons, etc.  You never know what could happen.

So I haven't completely given up hope.  I'm still hoping to find a solution, so I'm still going to get my passport expedited, just in case.  I'll need it next month, anyway.

Don't give up (and don't go with a cheaper surgeon...I am convinced you picked the best one). I can imagine how frustrating this is...but sometimes things happen for a reason. If you are supposed to have surgery on the 5th, things will fall into place. If not, it will be next month. Good luck!

Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you. Why so many extra costs if you don't mind me asking? When I had my surgery with Dr. Quinones it cost $4,500 for the surgery, everything was included in the price while we were in Mexico, no extra charges if we brought a companion along with us either. The only thing that I had to pay extra out of pocket was for my airline ticket which was about 400 bucks to fly from Tennessee to San Diego, and the medications that I brought back home with me, which were like 60 bucks. If you are considering flying you might was to check out the prices on a site called bookingbuddy .com...I travel a lot due to my work, and they normally have the cheapest prices on tickets. Another thing that you might consider is parking your RV in a walmart parking lot...sure its a pain to not be able to use your RV facilities, but its free. You also might be able to call your surgeon's office and see if they get a cooperate price for any hotels on the US side. I know that my doctor offers patients that need to stay in the US for whatever reason before surgery the use of his cooperate account for a few different hotels on the US side. If you can't work any of those options out, and are considering a switch in surgeons, Dr. Quinones has a stellar reputation and credentials. He is also proctor certified and actually teaches these bariatric surgeries to other surgeons at the medical college...so he has tons of experience, I highly recommend him. As for the risk of blood clots, I understand your concern, my plane ride back home took me about 13 hours...what I did to combat that was call a head to the air port and let them know that I had just had major surgery...they actually upgraded my ticket to first class for free so that I would have extra wiggle room, and then I would get up periodically and walk the isle. I hope that you get everything worked out...I know how frustrating the surgery process can be. If you have any specific questions, or would like some extra help tracking down cheaper plane tickets if you end of having to fly down, feel free to message me. This surgery has improved my life so much, so I like to pay it forward where I can to help others make it to the sleeved side. Best of luck to you!
