Anyone else with weight regain after VSG?
Hang in there! We're all in this together!
I would start by tracking TODAY. Get on MFP (MyFitnessPal) and track your intake. Get back to basics that work for you. Also, avoid the scale for 2 weeks. Wait until the 22nd to look at that bad boy again. Focus on:
1- Protein (my goal is 90g)
2- Water (My goal is 84oz)
3- Exercise- Start slow this week, but try to get at it 2 times to start.
4- Calories- Count 'em on MFP
5- PVC Piping.... Make sure your internal "piping" gets Protein, Veggie, the Carbs.
Back to basics.
Hang in there and you can do this!!

This happened to me. I was sleeved in September of 2007 and weighed 298. I lost 148lbs initially. Then my body settled at a weight of 145-150. I maintained the weightloss until 2013. I was diagnosed with PTSD, lost the carrer of my dreams....a career that I was very good at. But over time, by suppressing feelings and issues I was dealing with on the job, I cracked. I would go check on my 5 year old at night and she looked dead to me. It didn't matter that I was checking her breathing, in my mind she looked dead. So I began to work crime scene around her while she was asleep. I've been in counseling since 2009. The weight gain started because I stopped taking care of myself. I stopped lifting weights, doing hot yoga and the elliptical. I stopped thinking about what I ate and began to eat fast food and everything else with my family(my husband and daughter have a freakishly high metabolism). By the time I started feeling better mentally, I had gained back up to 220. This made me spiral into a deep depression, instead of giving me the motivation to change.
I woke up one day and weighed 240. I made an appointment with my bariatric surgeon and he told me my stomach had stretched out a little bit and I hada hiatal hernia. He said he would do a gastric plication to make my stomach smaller while he fixed the hernia. I went on the liquid diet on December 21, 2013. Had surgery on the 28th. I had a misstep in the first 3 weeks but since then have been diligent about my program. In all honesty I do not feel the revision has caused me to have slow but steady weight loss. I believe it was getting back on program. Detoxing from carbs and doing protein first. Getting in all the water needed. I finally started exercising on the elliptical again. I've lost 40lbs. The weight does not come off near as fast with the plication revision. But I'm happy with the habits I have gotten back. That is key. I feel confident I will get back down to 145. It's just going to take a while.
I just hope this experience I've had helps someone know you have to always be diligent about your eating and exercise plan.
I have had regain. Heaviest weight was 345, surgery date 302.6, lost to 195.6, currently 232. I regained 20 and recently put on another 15.
I'm currently doing Atkins.
Ultimately for me it's about remembering the why's of having surgery and setting a plan and sticking to it. Right now I lack consistency (which is what I lacked before WLS). It's an uphill battle that I fight daily.
Your sleeve is still there. Are you committed-determined? You can do this. It's going to be hard at first, but building good eating habits, well, that's what is going to see you through. Your are a way out, and I think it might be hard to go back to the beginning (shakes and super low calories)- How about 900 calories, under 40 carbs, 90+ oz of water....log EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth, and stay away from the refined carbs. It's the dense protein that will give you the restriction you need. Get some exercise in- it's a great stress reducer. Stay on the forum and let us know how you are doing. We are rooting for you. Way to have the courage to carry on- you can do this- if you will. Smiles, Bonnie

Dang it. I'd written a long reply and then it got wiped out. Since I'm not able to rewrite the entire thing I'll boil it down to my key thoughts.
I get it. I know exactly how you feel. I lost weight easily and maintained easily after revising from band to sleeve. I went from 256 to 132 and felt great. I had liposuction which messed up my metabolism and shot up to 145-150. Then I stopped following my protein first lifestyle, tried to aggressively diet, and just gained more until I hit 164. Desperate, I visited my surgeon who is sending me back to my regular doc. She's a bariatric patient and offers a support program. In the meanwhile I read The Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success book by Dr. Vuong and loved it. I also joined my local barre studio and am working out 3 times a week.
My head is now back in the right place. He expands on the "protein first" guidelines in a way I think makes a ton of sense. We got back from Hawaii at the end of last week and I went right to eating according to his guidelines. I can't believe how much restriction I'm feeling again. I'm already down 2 pounds and my brain seems to be getting out of the diet/deprivation rut. I'm going to keep doing this until my dr. appointment later this month. If I can turn this around by doing the same things I did to lose the weight in the first place I'll be thrilled. I never thought I could fail given how well the sleeve worked for me. It's been real wake-up call.
You can do this. You are not powerless. If there's only one change you can handle to get started then start with protein first. Once you start feeling the restriction again I suspect you'll feel the same sense of relief I did. Your tool is still there and it's ready to work for you.
