Insurance approved, but don't think hubby really gets how this is gonna have to work.

I'd make it a pot-luck gathering so you don't put too much stress on yourself.  Tell your husband if he's not going to grill, he'll have to ask one of the other men to do it.  You'll be too busy in the lounge chair!

For me it was best to not have food around that I couldn't eat right after surgery. You won't be able to enjoy the food you guys cook out for about a month or so after surgery. Once you have the surgery and are feeling good and are able to eat the solid protein then I don't think it's too big of a deal to have a bbq with friends. Unfortunately, you will not be able to hide from junk food forever...it's all around us. You can learn to enjoy the protein though. A nice grilled hamburger patty, chicken, or even a hot dog sounds good!
