Shrinking boobs and bra suggestion

This may sound a little dorky, so bear with me.  I just had a double mastectomy and the forum with patients who went through this recommended the Genie bra, because I will now have the opposite problem as the ladies on this board- going from flat chest to slowly back to my former size.  They are designed to accomadate different cup sizes very well up to about a D.  If you end up trying one, be sure to pick one size bigger than it says on the box.  They can be bought at Target, Walmart, and even CVS.  Best part- only $10 each.  One bra will take you through most all of the various shrinking sizes and they are very comfortable.

I have been thinking about trying these, but was afraid that they wouldn't have very good support. I found some utilitarian-looking bras that have great support, but gosh are they "all-purpose-looking".

My niece had the same surgery as you, and after her reconstruction surgery she doesn't need a bra.  You can't tell she doesn't have on on either!  Good luck and God speed on your healing!

I'm with you!  I hate bras.  They are ridiculous, and even comfortable ones aren't that comfortable.

I haven't tried one of these yet... Mostly because they look like a sport bra. Does it squish everything down or actually support and give some "oomph"?

ETA: Hope you're healing well, BTW.

Hi Chrissy,

I can't answer your question at this time.  I have not had a fill yet post surgery, and my chest is currently sporting the equivalent of a training bra in cup size.  There are larger breasted woment though who left reviews that the support was Ok though.  If it were me, it would be worth shelling out $10 to see.  Yes, they look like a sports bra, but they fit much better than any sport bra I ever ued and are more comfortable.  I used to get the "uniboob" look with a sports bra and the Genie does not do that.

For the poster who commented about the lack of padding- you can buy them with a padding insert.  In my situation my tissue expanders are lumpy and mishapen, and the pads are a god send for holding a proper shape for me.  The padding is similar in feeling to a padded bra that I would have worn prior to the mastectomy and enough thickness to prevent the "turkey tit" syndrome... you know when a woman gets cold and her timer pops up :)

I had one at my heaviest (44C-ish, their size 3X). The fit was about like those tank-tops with a built-in cami bra, maybe a touch stiffer... but that could have been because I was so big at that point. Funny thing is, they include foam cup inserts that are the EXACT same dimensions regardless of bra size, so the little cups in my 3X covered my areolas and not a whole lot else.

VERY comfy, though, and certainly good for those times when you need to put on a bra so you can go drive through the bank or something!
