How much exercise is too much?

Yesterday my physical therapist told me that I might want to consider cutting back a little on my exercise.  How have I become someone who exercises too much?  Who am I?!

This is my current schedule:

Monday - 1 hour yoga, 1 hour fast walking on the treadmill

Tuesday - 1 hour yoga, 1 hour pilates, 1 hour physical therapy

Wednesday - 1 hour fast walking on the treadmill

Thursday - 1 hour pilates, 1 hour physical therapy

Friday - 1 hour tai chi, 1 hour pilates, 1 hour fast walking on the treadmill

I don't feel like I'm doing too much.  I'm sore almost all the time, but I know that I'm still in the adjustment phase and that the only way this constant soreness will ever pass is if I keep at it.  The physical therapy is for my back which is actually in pain - different from the soreness that comes from exercise.

So what do you think?  Am I doing too much?  What exercise do you do?

I do 3 hours a day 5 days a week and 2 hours a day the other2 days. my surgeon says its fine if i feel up to it. they only worry you will get burnt out. but i did my work out routine 6 years only stopping long enough to have the surgery so its my life style.

I do an hour of racquet ball daily because I'm on a competition team, 1 hour of alternating running & jogging, & 1 hour of Krav Maga lessons.

It doesn't look like too much, but it's too close together.  Can you adjust the schedule to allow a recovery day during the work week?  I find my body suffers and my workouts suffer if I exercise too many days in a row without a break.

Thankfully, from my experience so far, I'm finding that everything is targeting different muscle groups, so I don't feel too fatigued going from one day to the next.  Which is good, since I can't change any of the class times so the schedule is pretty set unless I want to give up something completely.  Which I don't want to!  (Not yet, at least.)

Wednesday is sort of my mid-week rest day, since I've only got cardio that day ;)

I can't comment as to whether it is too much or not, good for you doing 3 hours a day but remember if you are eating more calories to compensate for the needed energy to work out that much, if you cut back on exercise you will probably need to cut back on your food intake.

Good for you!

I have not added extra calories to my diet to reward myself for the exercise, but that's definitely a great concern as it's not uncommon for people to fall into that trap!

I would listen to your body.  I have joint pain and do about 20 minutes of cardio at a gym about 5 times per week.
