Why I don't keep junkfood around- weekend at the in'laws cabin gone bad

This is just a quick post for newbies.... You will read time and time again to rid your house of junk food and trigger food.  Yea- it is that important!  Here I am 2.5 years out and maintaining well.  Except for this past weekend. What a clusterfuck.  I went to my in-laws cabin and it was filled to the rafters with junkfoods, mostly sweets.  I stayed out of it for a bit, but then dove in head first.  Even this far out, despite hitting goal easily, despite maintaining easily- I just cannot handle having junkfood in my house and especially sweets.  That is just how it has to be, as I do not ever see myself staying out of it if it were around 24-7.  So if you have been reluctant to rid your house of the crap because "your kids" or "your hubby" or whatever "should have it"- nah, they really shouldn't be eating that crap either.  Get rid of it.

Ok, off to start detoxing now... I will be a cranky ***** for a few days, consider yourself warned ;)

I'm a noob but I say yes, yes, yes to all of it.  If it's not good for me, why poison my family with it?  It just doesn't need to be there!

Great points!

Do you do anything special to detox?  I fell deep into sugar (again!) and am trying to get out of it.  I'm just thinking lots of water and protein.  Just wondering if anything else helps you to get off carbs?

For me it is more specific than carbs, it is sugar. I have to avoid all sugar and anything that is sweet tasting.  Even this morning I realized I put too much sf syrup in my coffee- too sweet for my needs.  Aside from that, I stick to fresh protein and veggies.  I will use premier protein shakes, even though they are on the sweet side.  Overall I will get my carbs under 100 (instead of my normal 150ish that I do).

Weighed in this morning- up 6 pounds.  I have never put that much on that fast in my life.  Time to really sit back and reflect on this!

Sweets are my issue too.  Chips, popcorn etc used to be my nemisis pre-surgery, but now really it is the sugar that has been calling to me.

I'm wondering if even my crystal light needs to be cut out while I get away from it.  Ugh -- I was thinking about trying protein ice cream tonight as a substitute, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea or if I should just white knuckle it.

Good luck with the next couple of days.  Those 6 lbs will come off quickly -- you know most of it is water.

My NUT did talk about cutting the addiction to the taste of sweet, which is why I am cognizant of the sf syrup and other sf sweet options.  There really is a strong correlation there for me.  I have never been able to full on kick the sf substitute habit (splenda, etc.) but I can dial it down.  So yes, IMHO drop as much of the sweet tasting stuff that you can. I did have  period post op where I completely stopped craving anything sweet... but woke that monster back up.  So I know I have it in my to kick it, now I just have to do it.

I have the same inability (or unwillingness?  I'm not sure what it is w/ me if I get completely honest and I'm not sure I'm ready to be THAT honest) to lose the sweet subs.  I use stevia but I know that they add maltodextrin to it to make it flow like sugar.  I just don't need those additives.  But I want that sweet taste - especially in my coffee.  I'm guiltily struggling with where I want to take this but for now I'm holding on to my coffee like a stubborn toddler.

A lot of the 6 lbs - probably the majority - is fluid retention.  For most people sugar causes inflammation throughout the body, whi*****reases fluid retention (as well as causing joint aches and pains, sluggishness, etc etc - at least for me.)   A few days of eating clean, and your body will release it.  BTDT, bought the t-shirt!  :-)

Must suck to have a thing for sweets, I have a thing for chips. I have been doing very well, but once in a blue moon I eat a few. Then I feel blaaah and forget them for a while. Sigh.
