When on plan snacks turn into grazing...
Hello,
This is just a quick post about "snacks". My plan has always called for them, and given my hypoglycemic status a true must for me. However, recently over the last 3 weeks or so my weight has shot up 6-8 pounds after several crap days, plummeted back down when I go back on plan, and then up again when I fall of the wagon. This is not a typical pattern for me to be all over the place like this, so it was time to reflect on why I am on this crazy train right now when it comes to my eating. In the end, I realized that I was very, very consistently breaking one of my rules during the weight loss phase- eat at least 2.5 hours apart and ideally 3 hours.
It is a simple idea really. It allows me to eat frequently enough to keep the sugar levels stable, but not so much that I pack in 3,000 calories (and I can so pack in 3,000 calories!). Yesterday was the first day in a really, really long time I kicked that rule in... and it turned out to be a 600 calorie day by default for me. Now for me even during the weightloss phase that is crazy low... my last 3 months of weight loss was all done at 1200 calories a day. So in a nutshell, I had to think back to what worked well in the weight loss phase, and figure out specifically (besides inahling too much sugar) what was triggering my eating habits that causes my weight to shoot up rapidly, and then shoot back down rapidly... repeat, repeat. Snacks are important for me- but grazing can slip in if you are not viligent. Stay mindful

Thanks for this! It's always great to see how people are coping with the pitfalls that crop up. Even if I haven't had the experience yet, I know that I will at some point, and I hope some of these helpful hints will stick in my brain when the time comes. :P

What I do is measure out my quantity for the day and then eat when I feel it. I often feel like eating in the late morning around 11ish and again around 4ish and again around 9 in the evening. So I plan out my meals and snacks so that at these times there is always something to gnaw on. Usually its due to stress or boredom at those times specifically. Regular meals kind of fit in around that but I also include meals in the measure of quantity for the day. Then really no matter how I break it all up it works out to the same amount of calories. Seems to work for me.
